Tranny leaking after Drag Racing.

Went to Rockfalls Raceway and ran on some 15's.

Kept running 14.4's so my brother gave me some advice... He's running 12.8's in his stage 2 SRT-4 so I listen. "Hey man, you should warm up your tires in second gear not first." So I did, and then I ran a 14.3. I thought yay, what great advice, I might be able to beat my PB of 14.2.... so I continue to do this for the rest of the day but was only able to run 14.3's

Get back home and I have a puddle under my tranny. Jacked it up and I notice that it's leaking from the DUST COVER PLATE!!!! I haven't had the chance to rip apart the tranny yet to see if it's a seal or a cracked tranny.

Oh yeah, I've also noticed the clutch is slipping but I know that this is because of the tranny fluid being where it's not supposed to be. Normal driving is fine as well as giving it gas when the clutch is already fully engaged. But high RPM shifting = slipping clutch.

Has anyone had this problem? Does anyone know what it is and how it can be fixed?

No idea but if you take out the tranny make sure you sand the mating surfaces really well. Good luck fellow st paulian!

If the leak is coming from the bellhousing, it could be the input shaft seal (gear oil) or the rear main seal (engine oil).

Your clutch is now trash of course, so plan on a full rebuild and new clutch.

Yeah... took the tranny apart and a small hole was in the cylinder wall that surrounds the shaft. Will take a picture soon.

I am leaking gear oil, but the clutch and gears go in perfectly. If it's the input shaft seal should'nt I be having some problems shifting and clutch slipping?

I don't think so man. If it's leaking from the side that's not supposed to have fluid then you're in the same boat that I'm in.

See where the leak is coming from, it could just be a bad seal.

Just FYI, my tranny was leaking pretty bad. Still shifted into gear perfectly and clutch still grabbed good. Only noticed the slippage when shifting gears racing.

If you're talking about the little hole in the throwout bearing post when you say "a small hole in the cylinder that surrounds the shaft" - that hole is supposed to be there.

No, you probably wouldn't be experiencing any other symptoms besides a noise from the trans that goes away when you depress the clutch pedal and possible fluid leakage.

I have the noise which goes away when I depress the clutch. I thought it's the throw-out bearing or input-shaft bearing.

It's the input shaft bearing, the throwout bearing wouldn't have those symptoms.
