Need TECH opinion...codes P0400,P0138(egr,o2)

Alright, so i bought this car from dealership 2 weeks ago (it was a trade in). My SES light has been on ever since. OBD testing returned these 2 codes. So...I'm broke rigth now after just shellin out the cash for this leather wrapped max. ive read the stickies and got a little help (this forum rocks ) and have been made WELL WELL aware that egr, vacuum system is sligthly sub-par.

1st, has anyone tested with an Ohm meter the EGR solenoid which might throw my P0400 code and if so what is the normal reading to tell if its good? 2nd, if there is a vacuum leak, would P0400 be a typical code for this problem? 3rd, are there any diagrams, pics, etc. online that i can print to map out my ENTIRE vacuum system (99 max) so i can try cleaning out this beast?

As for o2 sensor, i found out dealership had been using 87 octane for my car while they were using it to test drive...would this in anyway trick my ecu into running rich or lean??? if so could that throw my P0138? I still have the same 87 in it right now. My car has 73K on it right now and idles @700rpm which i'm assuming is normal but I'm guessing because of these specific codes...it's probably knocking off about 4-5 miles a gallon huh???

I'm just trying to start cheaply in trouble shooting b4 i just say screw it and buy new parts bcuz, well, i'm broke

I know some of u have probably seen this issue a million times but my questions are detailed and straight to the point and shouldn't be to hard to help me out a little bit, u guys r great and thanks for any help...SHIFT_ex-civic driver! (this Max is nice )

i was going to try to help you, but then realized you posted an almost identical thread. and i was going to say what they were saying. so do what they said and dont post the same thing twice.

and FYI...i was talking about this one:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=520766

if you have more questions pertaining to the same topic, just ask in the already exisiting thread.

edit-ok, you didnt ask about the egr solenoid in that other thread, so ill tell u how to test it. take it off the car, and try to blow through it. you shouldnt beable to. then put it to power, and blow through it. you should beable to. if those check out its most likely good. sorry, i dont have access to alldata anymore or ide give you the specs for voltage/ohms and what not.

a lot of that info about the egr is probably in the FSM which you can DL from phatg20.net

as far as the O2, you'll probably have to replace it, but you know check the cable, check it with a multimeter.

you can always reset the computer and see if the code actually comes back.

and taken from that thread:

(very first answer given)

and i corrected my post and said you hadnt asked about the egr so i tryed to help you the best i could. i know i came off as a d*ckhead, so my bad. its just very annoying to see repost after repost.

but to give you a little more info, no it wont trick the ecu into running rich or lean. the ecu simply uses the last obtained correct O2 sensor reading. but a bad upstream o2 will hurt gas mileage(the ones before the cat). a bad downstream (after cat) o2 wont really effect it that much, because that one is more for telling if the cat is working correctly.
