so i didn't know drivers normally stomp on the gas padding to 4k rpm everytimes they go to the supermarket. i have seen this graph in the past. the difference between stock and aftermarket at 4 rpm is about 8 hp.

if your stock is not broken, don't replace it. save your $$.

You must drive an auto, you must not know the sound of the VQ. Try driving a stick, you'll find its not so hard to hit 4k RPM's especially in the lower gears due to the gear ratios.

Overall its about a 20hp increase, and at only ~$170-200 a pipe, that's a mere $10/hp which isn't a bad bang for your buck.

If you want some extra power, start with a Y-Pipe and an Intake.

Pretty much 100% of my exhaust is shot. Brackets busted, rusty, nearly inexistent flex pipe and at least one of the two mufflers are dead.

I would like to pretty much straight pipe it, use 2.5" (i think) right from the headers and go back. I would bypass the cats but still use 2 mufflers just so it doesnt sound like a piece of ****.

I live in cheese land (wisconsin) and they are a bit more leanient and I am not worried about passing emissions tests. Because I wont have any cats, where does the o2 sensor go? I can imagine the car will run poorly if you dont have any o2s.

Two mufflers? As in Dual Exhaust?

Or are you referring to your cats as mufflers?

Either way, I take it your going to get an Aftermarket Y-Pipe paired with a Test Pipe and a straight through design catback. In which case all your pipes will have the right bungs for the right sensors and the sensors will go right where they were before, they'll just detect higher EFC's (I don't know why I want to say EFC's, I forget the acronym for the test but you get the idea) because you don't have any emissions control. Also I'm not so sure your going to pass emissions with no cats whatsoever

Well, it would be single exit exhaust and when i said two mufflers i was referring to the one in the middle after the cats and the one right by the exhaust tip. Im pretty sure its a muffler, id feel pretty silly if its not.

I dont know whether or not my stock y-pipe is fine or not. Im not really looking for real performance so im not going all out on new performance parts. Few of my buddies are good welders and have done several exhaust systems for trucks. The piece right before the flex pipe is shot as well as the flex pipe itself. I am just replacing shot rusted out parts.

I just want it to not sound like its dying, its such a nice car but mine sounds like ****.

I hear you, I've got a hole rusted through in my muffler, but I have an SP2 ready to go on.

Just to help explain things I'll pull the FSM:

If your not going for performance just replace with stock parts

Wow, thanks for the image. So according to that drawing my pre cats are split, flex pipe is practically gone, my cat is decent, just really rusty, my b-pipe (thought that was a muffler? whats it do?) might have something up with it, it looks good but it rattles/sputters in 3rd gear and my muffler is the same way. One of the two is rattling/sputtering. Its hard to tell when im driving, it wont do it on the ground.

Is it fine to ditch pre-cats?

Thanks

It's a resonator in the B-Pipe to cut down on sound so yes, it does muffle sound, but more commonly referred to as a resonator so it doesn't get confused with the muffler.

You can ditch precats, its illegal but as long as they don't check your ok because you should still pass emissions.

laugh of the day ! thanks for that ...h a ! what do you mean an extra ? they not charging you 275 to put a ypipe on are they ? find another place, doesnt sound like those guys could figure out how to roll your window down, much less install a ypipe. i paid $55 dollars for my ypipe, bpipe, muffler back when I had that setup.
