clutch replacement!!

clutch replacement!!

my clutch is slipping bad and me and my friend are going to swap my clutch and id be nice if i knew a few things, how long does it usually take when doing it yourself (he is a certified mechanic though) what will i need, and the biggest thing is will i have to drop my engine? or just my tranny

also what clutch do you guys reccommend.

and any other information that i might need to know feel free to post it!

clutch is easy to replace... just takes some work... u just drop the trans which should come out in like a half an hour anyways

Yeah and don't follow the instructions in the haynes or fsm, you don't need to remove the y-pipe or crossmember, instead just remove the 4-bolts for the tranny mount instead of the one tranny mount bolt and it will clear just fine, I never knew that for the longest time until I heard that on the .org, so the next tranny I dropped sure enough it's da truth! If you find a leaking rear-main/upper oil pan seal, you will have to pull the crossmember/y-pipe and upper oil-pan to do it properly.

And if it's slipping, you need to get the flywheel turned. $40 at a local machine shop/parts place. Call around to find out which one does it.

for a clutch????


Hell No... just the trans.. its pretty light also... just make sure u get a clutch aligning tool..

alright that makes it alot easier on my mind knowing that i dont have to drop my engine, what is the best flywheel and clutch for the money. and how much is a clutch aligning tool?

You'd actually be suprised, the 'big' vq is actually relatively easy to drop, easier than at least 90% of the cars out there imho, it just looks difficult.

oem 5th gen exedy from nissan is an excellent choice, check the group-deal forum. The clutch aligning tool is only a few bucks from autozone, in fact if you end up getting that maf remind me and I'll drop an extra one that I have in for free.

alright man sounds good. i called the salvage yard today and they want 110 for a used one so im just going to try a few more places so i think you got the deal.
