Fuel cut off line? Car kicked back at high rpm

The other day my gas tank was pretty much empty and i decided to just punch it. By 80mph and at high rpms the engine just kicked back atleast 3 times, i thought i fcuked up something, and kinda got scared. Later i filled up gas and tested it out again, thank god it was back to normal.

Do our cars have some sort of like fuel cut off line when the gas is low the computer prevents the engine from doing high revs at high speed?

i dont know about any low fuel cut off, i kinda doubt it. what if...and this is just a what if - u had such low fuel in the tank that when u punched it the fuel inside the tank was pushed back and the pump had nothing to pump. Thus the cutoff ? its a long shot.

I also think its good to punch it once in a while to clean out the engine from all the deposits, carbon and crap in general. just a good punch while rolling, NOT standing. u dont want to mess up ur tranny.

But @ 80mph? I could see maybe from the dig but pulling at 80? Could that still be the case?

I can guarantee you the ECU doesn't care how much fuel is in the tank.

The state of the fuel in the tank doesn't immediately affect your engine, a bubble or two has to travel through your fuel line. When it reaches your engine in the middle of third gear it stutters. I've had this happen many times in about the same spot as I let my tank get pretty low before I refill.

also could have been pulling the sediment at the bottom of the tank

I've had it happen multiple times, and only when I've been under WOT and the tank is almost empty. It's not pulling anything from the tank and that is why it's stuttering.
