Rear driver side caliper?

Anyone know where i can get one(cheaply). I got a ticket today for past due inspection, because the caliper has been rubbing. I got a new rotor, but without the caliper its no point, the pads will be ruined within a month. Not to mention im gettin about 16 mpg right now.

Look under your car and see if your emergency brake line is cut.

Just get one from Autozone, etc. They're not too expensive and really easy to replace.

I'll check autozone tommorow, there closed now. Why would i care if the e-brake line is cut, i mean i know its not because when i pull the e-brake it works, but why would it matter. The only problem with the e-brake is that when i use it, and then come back to the car a few hours later, the car actually feels like the wheels are chocked, it kinda has to be broken loose.

ive actually had this experience and 8 out of 10 times if u press the rear calipers together with a c-clamp and a small piece of wood all they way in they seem to free up. And alot of people will say this will ruin them because they are threaded. i have yet to see 1 caliper ruined this way. just squeeze it in a little at a time then back off

^^^^^^^I've seen a lot of calipers ruined this way especially ones with over 50k on them. I've ruined them myself as well as laughed at my friends when then did the same thing after I told them not to. You have to twist the piston back in on the rear and if they are seized backing off the piston doesn't do anything anyways. Rebuilding the caliper keeps it going for a while the best thing to do is replace it. If you're worried about it happening again get some brass piston calipers they are more expensive but they have a 3 year warranty auto zone has them for select cars I don't know if they have them for the Maxima.

if you going for cheap cheap. check out pepboys. i recently did my brake caliper this week also on the driver rear. piston was seized. so i gave them a core swap for a rebuilt caliper. costs only 70 bux at pep boys. autozone charges 102 i believe.

i still didnt complete my bleeding though, since i have no assistant to help me hold the brakes. grrr.... so i have spongy brakes for the time being.

i just did my drivers side rear caliper, it was sticking and i got raped for 278.00 to replace!!! you should be able to get a caliper at advanced auto thats a little better quality than shlep boys or auto poned, i think they said 169.99, install takes like 15 minutes if that. your pads wont wear down all that fast if you take it easy on your whip.

A new rear caliper at autozone is about $75 after core return and the install takes about half an hour if you know what you're doing.

I've used 5 of them on the three different 4th gens I've owned without a problem, also put an autozone caliper on my mother's Accord and she's had no issue in the 3 years or so since I put it on.

Replace both rear calipers at the same time. The brakes are hydraulic and you will experience uneven braking if you don't replace both of them.

Don't chintz out with your brakes!

That's complete bull. If one caliper is in good working order, seals intact, etc, there is no reason to replace it.

I said check it because mine was cut from putting the car up lifts and now my calipers are doing the same thing. This problem is listed in the stickys.

That isn't the conventional wisdom I have seen posted on this website in a number of threads before, nor is it what I have been told my more than one brake shop.

I assume you wouldn't change the other set of brake pads at the same time too!

dude, ive had this car for about a month now...i think my brakes are sticking every once in a while too bcuz when i slowly come to a stop, actually before it stops, periodically i hear a sound similar to tapping (one tap) my wheel well area with a rubber mallet?!? someone had suggested rear sway endings??? im leaning toward a brake prob cuz ive looked closely at my brakes and have found out that damn dealership had brand new pads on some rotors that have some grooves in em so im thinkin car might have had a history of brake PUKES (car had 73 k). also, after surfin the org...seems like brakes are yet another downside to these cars. again, top 10 V6 ever made...supporting cast sub-par. i'm just gonna throw some brembos on it w'slotted rotors...actually does NIssan have bigger calipers that will convert over to my max?

I think I remember something about 350Z calipers being fitted on 4th Gens, but don't quote me on it. Perhaps some other members can chime in on this one.

I replaced both rear calipers and pads two years ago, because my right rear was seized as a result of not using the parking brake for about 5 years.

I live at sea level where it is flat as a pancake, lol!

thats humorous being that u have a manual but besides the point, yes that is exactly what i was thinking when u mention the Z brakes....i thought they might be my option (dont know the size of 300Z brakes they might be an option too)i have actually stemmed my own brake problem thread with all of these questions in it.

You'll feel it (sort of like you dropped a cylinder and are down on power), but most likely you will smell that god-awful burning brake smell. Then touch your wheels - they will be HOT!

Do you need any special tools to take off and reinstall the parking brake mechanism? I've already swapped out the front calipers, and that's no big deal, but how do the backs come apart?

you need larger rims to accomodate z brakes.

autozone caliper will work, it is not made from recycled cardboard nor is it a complicated piece of machinery with intricate parts.

you dont need to replace both if only one is bad, unless you are into doing preventative maintenance.
