Swapped Engine, now overheating

I Swapped a 99 Maxima with a younger 99 Maxima engine from a car with one month different build dates, did not swap ECU's.
Anyways. Now the engine is sometimes overheating when idleing, fans are not being told to turn on when this happens, but the fans do turn on other times. The AC system is open at the moment. dunno if this matters.

the temp gauge sometimes climbs to near the danger zone, then if I turn the car off and right back on the temperature is back to normal healthy range.? this is what seemed most odd to me. Checked all the basics and now im stumped.

Any Ideas, anyone ever see this erradic temp guage condition?

are you ssure you plugged your coolant temp sensor connectors on right should be one black one and blue one the black one is usually nasty as hell when you pull the plug so clean it off and double check your connections i had the same thing happen with the fans but no overheating issue after a drive around the block the fans started acting normal again
