y-pipe knocking on crossmemeber.
y-pipe knocking on crossmemeber.
for those who installed the Warpspeed Y-Pipe on their 4 th gen, have you guys noticed any knocking or rattling upon launchin from a dead stop?
the reason im asking is because i read that this is a common problem for warpspeed and the 4th gen ypipe and its also happening to me.
my other question is now for those who had the noise...how did u fix it/cover up the rattling?
any suggestions?

i have had mine for almost two years. its a warpspeed. i had pulled it and reinstall it on my third 4th gen. never had a leak or problem. i have plenty clearance from everything, so i dont have anything to rub up against it. also i finally got the bee in the can sound on my third max but i have an idea it the cat.
i had this along time ago......when i first got mone put on.....oneday i was putting in my shoft shifter and i had to get the cat off. i beat the living **** out of it to get the rusted bolts off and i have never heard a peep from it since.......

Here's what I did at installation of my exhaust to ensure that my flex pipe wouldn't experience too much flex and movement thus putting less strain on the woven mesh welds. I even consider this a little hack, but it's been on the car for 3 years and no problems, no rattles.
I went to lowe's (this is where eyes will start to roll) and bought a piece of metal rebar (such that would be put in concrete bases or what not. I took it home and sanded it down to remove rust and painted it with a silver high temp engine paint. I then ran this under neath the Y-pipe right after the bend from the headers, down past the flex pipe to the last part of the y-pipe before it connects with the cat. I fassened it with 4 hose clamps (2 at each end). Doing this connects the start of the y-pipe, where it is more rigid, to the end of the y-pipe where it has much more give due to the flex pipe area. I would suggest only doing this after everything is attached and everything has settled. Everything ran pretty straight for me with no rattles and this was just a precautioanry measure. So if you really have to foce the rebar to line up down the y-pipe this may not be for you. Again, if you do this, do it at your own risk.
You can always go to a shop and have them weld something for you, but then you may experience vibrations depending how and where it is welded.
btw I have a budget y, to a stock cat to a greddy sp2 setup.
