Starting problem, could it be the ECTS?

Sometimes, whenever I try to start the car, the engine will not even turn over.

If I try again (without taking out the key) after a couple seconds it fires up fine. It seems to do it more when the engine is hot, but it does it when it is cold too.

The starter and the ignition have been replaced. From searching on the forum it looks like it could be the ECTS (Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor). Any input?

I should also add that:

The fuel filter was just replaced.
Throttle body and IACV were just cleaned.
Spark plugs changed 20k ago.

Check your codes and see if there is anything in the PCM. I had the same problem as you. CEL light was not on, however there was a code in there for the Cam Position Sensor. It like a $78 part and it takes maybe 5 min to change the sensor and reset the PCM. So far so good for me.

if the coolant sensor was bad the car would start perfectly when cold. then it would run like crap once its worm and not want to restart when warm.

Interesting, the car runs fine when warm so I guess it isn't the coolant sensor.

I'll have to check my codes, my car wouldn't start for 10 minutes after getting gas. Finally, after nothing but clicking when trying to start, the engine turned over and finally fired up (barely, had to give it gas to keep from stalling) after 5 seconds or so.

Well, I pulled the codes and...

No cam position sensor, but there was knock sensor. That doesn't really explain the starting problem though. I cleared out the code and see if knock sensor comes back up again. If it does, I guess I'll be replacing it.

my car is having the same problem. sometimes it won't start and then sometimes when it does, it seems really weak. like it's not totally started and sounds like it's about to die but it starts to warm up after 10 secons and sound normal again. same situation?

Did you replace the ignition switch? I had the same issue and once I replaced the switch I haven't had a problem since then.

It is still having the problem, I'm starting to suspect it might be the starter again. This car is on it's third starter in it's life, so I'm starting to think it just goes through alot of starters.

not exactly. It could be your starter relay. My dad's maxima did the same thing. It just wouldn't turn on one day, so i thought it was the starter but the starter was tested by auto zone and advance auto parts and it was fine.

Then i replaced the starter relay and all the fuses and it seemed like the relay went bad cuz apparently that problem was fixed after that.

Well,

It turned out to be the starter, despite the fact we just replaced it less than two years ago. This is the car's 4th starter in its lifetime .

Oh well, it starts perfectly everytime now.
