RPM Switch "Weatherized" ***Pics***

After a recent engine bay wash and hours of trouble shooting to figure out why in the world my Tach wasnt working any more, I found that a fair amount of water had gotten into my Summit RPM Switch. Once I took it apart I quickly realized the weak points of the enclosure design. There is no gasket for the lid and a gapping area where the wires come out. To save myself this problem in the future I decided to make a quick trip to Fry's Electronics and engineer a better enclosure. This is what I came up with.

The supplies...........

Finished...........

When does your open? IIRC, your last dyno showed no such event.

3800 RPM. It does open. Visually verified many times. The switch has been on there since day 1.

Must be the lack of VTC's for the lack of low-end'ness

It only activates at 3800 RPM and above so as soon as RPM's are below the threshold it closes.

If you mean how did I physically open the RPM switch, there are 4 screws.

IMO, the open/closing of the 2k2 VIAS is negligible. Activating it anywhere from 3600 - 3800 would be fine.

Mine is next to my left foot, just above the dead pedal region.

Only problem with that 'mod' - now the summit rpm switch is even BIGGER - surprised they used such a large enclosure in the first place.

Id rather have it bigger than wet again. I didnt install it in the first place, but I guess I could relocate it. I was bored and made a trip to Fry's. My over engineering got the best of me.

Why not use the rtv to form a gasket on the original lid of the switch? and squirt some where the wires come out too?

I'm sure lack of CVTC is also a concern. So playing w/ different RPM points on a dyno sounds like a nice idea.

nice work but uner the radio/shifter trim makes for easy access

That would have been my solution. My RPM switch actually has an O ring type of gasket around its lid to seal it, the only area that could allow moisture in is where the wires come out of it. Silicone would solve that easily enough though.

Under the hood is just as easy. Plus having RCA wires and other wiring for other devices makes it a bit tight there too, at least for me.
In theory you could just mount it any where but for me under the hood was the easiest and fastest solution. No need to run a lot of wire to it.

There was no O-Ring on mine. Also this way allows me access with out having to cut through or redo any RTV should I need to open it back up.
