Hello,

Seeing that my CD player doesnt work but my display does... I would like to do the aux mod.

Ive looked over the actual thread regarding this mod but I am still somewhat stumped.

I understand this picture http://img206.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img11580vp.jpg and see where the wires go in relation to my HU. The only problem is that I have NO CLUE where the leads go to, i know some go to the RCA jacks but what about the others? If anybody has done this and knows where the leads go please let me know!

I used a stereo minijack ("headphone jack"). Both the left and right negatives go to the connector's ground and the left and right positives go to their respective signals...

So the L- and R- go to the "sleeve" or the portion nearest the base, the R+ goes to the "ring" or the middle portion and the L+ goes to the tip, or the portion furthest from the base of the connector.

The "aux" should go straight to a toggle switch, and then connect the other end of the toggle switch to ground on the HU. Close the switch to activate the aux input and open it to deactivate it/use radio/tape.

 

Thanks, that doesnt sound too difficult, I will be using RCA plugs but the same principal applies. Ill get on this later next week and I can let ya know how it goes.

 

Oh I forgot to ask about the "not used" cable... what is it there for? Does it go to the switch with 3 pins?

 

There is no R+ on there. Which is which? I never did this just because the old thread was more confusing then helpful. Did you wire into the wires in the minijack or what? It all makes sense to me except the picture doesn't show the + - very well and which wires are what in the minijack. Figuring out minijack wires should be hard but the picture needs a touch up.

 

Mini jacks are TRS (tip, ring, sleeve) the -'s go to the sleeve, and the L+ goes to the tip and the R+ goes to the ring.

The Aux pin goes to one lead of a toggle switch and the ground to the other.

I have no clue where the "not used" lead goes...

 

Yeah I know how the mini jack works. I said I could figure out how the wiring in the minijack works to find the wires for each but I wanted to see how someone who already did it had it. Plus the linked picture isn't good because it doesn't actually show the + and - R/L.

 

First of all, the "not used" one is NOT USED. Ignore it.

Second of all, look at the picture again. All four of the R+/- & L+/- are all clearly marked. You can connect the two channel grounds (the R- and L-) together before you connect them to the minijack.

Edit: You have a '98 so the HU will use a different circuit board, but they should have the same patterns of pins on them. The pins within the patterns serve the same function. I'd like to post a picture but I'm NOT going to rip out my head unit just so I can take an extra "confirming" picture. Be proactive, the soldering is by far the hardest part, not finding the correct pins.

 

Ok, i thinki fully get it now. So the not used lead doesnt need to be there at all?

 

yeah sorry bout that. I was at work when I originally looked at the link and I'm assuming the screen just wasn't showing the picture well. The + - are shown perfectly. My bad. Might be trying this soon after all.
