Knock Sensor Resistor Mod

Does anyone have the link as to how to do that 470 ohm resistor trick? I've been searching for it for a while. I've switched out my KS a couple times and the ghost code eventually comes back. I think I just want to do that resistor trick and know that I'm getting full power.

If you could edumacate me on what I need and how to do it I'd greatly appreciate it.

It is not a mod,it's a bypass of the sensor..

don't do it. If your KS code keeps popping up... you might have another issue. Bypassing the KS will allow it to knock if you really have a problem.

Thanks fellas. Radio Shack sells two different 470 ohm resistors: a 1/4w and 1/2 w version. Does it matter which one I get?

So, just disconnect the harness from the KS and stick the ends of the resistor into the two holes in the harness and wrap it with some electrical tape huh?

Thanks!

the_3d_man.....what other potential issues might I have?

I don't have any other codes. When I have replaced the KS....it would drive for several months afterwards w/o throwing the 0304 ghost code....but I just checked it the other day and it showed up again.

I always use 91 octane and I'd make sure to listen for any knocking. I can always plug it back in to KS later if I hear a problem right?

Thanks for your input...I appreciate it.

idk if this is what you mean but you are suppose to use a 470k ohm resistor. big difference.

it has to be between the signal line and ground, not between the two connector terminals. one of them is not used --- I forget which one.

in any case, i would not advise doing this this.

.25 and .5 watt will work

it goes right into the harness connector

MAKE SURE u run 93 octane

Thanks skyjumper. I'm aware of the risks of knocking and such. I just want to experiment with it.

So can someone clarify for me where the resistor plugs into? My understanding is that it plugs into the end of the wire harness where it normally connects to the KS.

I recall someone posted a picture of the resistor bypass/mod.

0 is the ks
[] is the ks plug
{} is where the resistor plugs into...

your not gonna ruin anything by doing this...

f550...thanks for the diagram. That totally helps. I would've done it wrong otherwise.

I am going to do this mod.

I hate to sound stupid but I don't understand the diagram.

I am holding an old sensor and i see the 2 pins that go to the harness.
Do you plug one lead of the resister to the harness and the other lead to ground? If so what terminal of the harness plug do you use?

Also I checked this website http://www.koaproducts.com/english/index_02.htm and they have a million resisters, which one do I get?

just replace the KS with that 470K resistor. attach the resistor between the two pins on the connector and that should be it. One of the pins on the KS harness is ground I believe, but you might want to verify that with a voltmeter.
And make sure it's a 470K... not 470!! (also any wattage will work)

Ok, can someone clarify?

Do you disconnect the wire harness from the actual knock sensor and attach the resistor on this side of the wire harness? This would require reaching into that hell hole underneath the air intake.

Or do you disconnect the other end of the wire harness (opposite of where wire harness connects to knock sensor) and attach the resistor to the connector where this end of the wire harness connects to?

Sorry for the lame *** question.

u connect it to the harnes from the car... not the one from the sensor...

its right by the green connector near the tbody....

look at my diagram..

u cant connect it to the harness that directly plugs into the sensor cuz there only is 1 wire running to it...
