not sure how mechanilcally inclined you are, but replacing brake rotors and brake pads is easy enough, might want to consider doing it yourself not sure about the housing

The parts shouldn't cost "alot of $$$$$", sounds like the guy is either exaggerating or trying to make a buck off of you. Rear rotors would be around $70 plus shipping (depending on brand, I'd suggest Brembo blanks) and rear brake pads $30-60 (depending on brand). Both could be sourced through the Group Deal forum at good prices. Labor for a brake job for the rear (swapping out rotors and pads) shouldn't exceed $50.

Drop it off at my house and ill fix it all for 100 bucks + parts But seriously... do it yourself. Its not hard, not too time consuming and you will know the job was done well. With the few hundred bucks you saved go out for a nice... really nice dinner or something

usually i'd say "housing" is associated with things like headlight housing, fog light housing.

guess you'll have to call him up and figure out what he was talking about

looks like you'll be watching the 4th gen FS forum like a hawk for a fog light then, like many of us

and the fog lights are held in by a screw or two from the outside = easy fix

except for the fact that most mechanics charge around 70.00 an hour for labor, and unless your a friend of the tech in question, i would say minimum of a 100.00 for labor. and the parts should be around 200.00, unless you want to buy online at an aftermarket site.

now stop and think about that for a minute, the brakes are probably pretty messed up for him to say you need them. and no, it won't pass insp. with bad brakes and exhaust unless your mechanic lets slide and do them later, which i doubt. he could lose his license by doing that.

I forgot that was so and that's true depending on where you're from. Here in the Bay (as long as you stay away from Stealerships) shops charge based on the specific job not by the hour, friend or no friend.

yes you will pass. fogs lights are aux lights. they dont have anything to do with inspections it should only be headlights. brakes do nothing with emissions. Only thing is MAYBE if they do safety inspection they might note your brakes but i never heard of such thing nor do i live in a state that inspects your car.

rear brakes are something that can be taught to a girlfriend in a matter of minutes. i've showned my girl how to do it on my max and she is ready to do it on her lancer. all she needs is my tools and for me to take the wheels and jack up the car. she isn't the best at that but she can do it. so i mean there are write ups. hell any write up should do cause brakes are brakes.

first timers 4-6 hours at most. me personally 1 hour at most cause i tend to get carried away with music and drinking.

i would say do the brakes definitely...the fogs i wouldnt worry about because if you REALLY need to get it inspected and u need new fogs, u can just take them off(??) and the inspector will never know u even had them. Brakes can be bought for as low as around $25 at a local auto parts store. Depending on the rotors and their condition, u may even get them turned for less than that but it is a good thing to have brand new ones.

if your doing it at home. its faster and easier to buy the rotors. because in order to get them cut you would need a 2nd car and to run to either a shop or a store to cut them for $5-10. VS cheapest rotors are 15$-25$ and thats saves you 1 hour worth of traveling back and fourth and dirtying other cars.

I dont recommend you go extremely cheap on brakes but it is your rears that only do 20% or so. And you probaly never need to replace them again. its normally 2 sets of the front per 1 in the rear. Without knowing what you would like to spend and what your driving habits are. I cant really give a accurate recommendation. But i personally think Hawks HPS pads are the best "bang for the BUCK" @ 40-60$ a set of front or rears. They stop great and low dust. its more about the pad then the rotor tho.
