starting problem.

cousin has a 96 GLE. starts only when it wants to. when we turn the key to start we hear a click and if we get lucky it cracks and turns on. he took it to some mechanics said it was the ignition key or switch. any one know where exactly its located. ive looked tho the FSM. cant seem to find its location. and if you guys know how much it goes for?

thanks for the help.

Ignition swtich for sure.

Its a $25 part, pull the steering cover plastic off and its held on by 2 screws under the column. Unplugs and takes about 5 min to change. They usually fail and show there weak points when it gets hot out.

you should call first, due to the fact that i went to pep boys once and they said they didn't carry it in most of the south florida stores. Plus, i think $50 is a bargain at autozone

Its just a part that wears out. The connections get used and used and slowly just fail.

it wasnt mine. it was my cousins 4th gen.

i personally have a 3rd gen. didnt have this problem in the 13 years. but the tranny is gone so i am parting it rite now. tho my sister has a 4th gen and dosnt have this problem and my bro's 6th gen i to new. just waiting for the new nissan quality. goshn(sp) and his cost cutting tactics.

yea my cousin is happy now that his car starts and dosnt have to connect some a wire to the postive side from batt to starter.
