Blacked out tails

So... I'm planning on blacking out my tailights this week. I was wondering before I did has anyone done this before? Anyone have any pics of the final product?

I'll post my pics soon as I'm done.

Ok So I finished and here is the final product. Photoshop isn't working at the moment so I was able to resize the image so here is a link.

The visibility is not bad at all. We were laughing sayin that you can see the break lights better in the day now; which is true.... weird huh? I guess the darkness of it makes the red more pronounced. It was sooo much easier with the lights out. Took about an hour to do. The hardest part was getting the film to line up correctly. The center lights took about 2 min and the out side lights probley about 25 min. The film is completly removable and reusable. I'm not sure if the cops will bug me yet but if they do I can pull it off on the spot and avoid the ticket (hopefully). Let meknow what ya'll think, not that I really care J/k but yea I'd like to here any input.

im also thinking about tinting my tails, and from what i have read i would suggest using the nightshades paint. the product that you were thinking about is just a static stick sticker essentially, it can easily come off when driving at faster speeds. also if you are worried about the paint being permanent then just dont put a clear coat over it when your done and it can be removed with fingernail polish remover. also with the paint you can decide how many coats you want to do and exactly how dark you want the tint.

All of these say they should only be used for show cars or off road for a reason. They cut down on the visibility of your brake lights to others especially during the day. Not worth the hassle in my opinion.

Silvermist... I'm digging your car color bro... seriously, I'm gonna repaint my car later on after the engine work is done... and that silver paint job you got on yours is similar to what I was looking for... Of course I was gonna also do the whole smoked bumper lights, blacked out r34 headlights.. .and smoked red/clear tails... I saw the same product on ebay and was also thinking about getting it. but I dont know...

Thanks dude!

You know I just got the film in yesterday but I only had 1 hour of free time so I didnt have enough time to do the whole thing. I tested it out though and the visibility isnt that bad. You can certainly tell its not as bright though. The night time visibilty wont be a problem but I'm worried about the day time. I'm having second thoughts because of the Day time visibility. I have an extra pair of tail lights so I'm gonna try to put the on those and ride around for a few days and see how I like it. If I do I will more than likly go the night shade route though. The film is also very difficult to put on the outer lights. I think it'll be easier when applying to lights that are not attached to the car. I have time tonite to do it so I'm gonna try to finish up tonite and hopefully post pics tommorow. If all goes well and the look is good I plan on buying some gen2 tails and blacking those out. The look of the tail light will be blacked out but when you break it'll show the round LED's which i think will look pretty cool. Lol only time will tell.

Would this work on the orange tails as well? I dont see it in any of their examples, If they do I'll try 'em out.

Really good advice, I just sold my DSM, that I had tinted taillights on. I was always being told that no one can see me brake during the day, and poorly at night, be safe, stay stock....

It looks good is that the 20% tint? How easy would you say it comes off? Give us some night shots with the lights on etc and a day shot.

Night pics as requested http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/a...a/DSC00020.jpg

The brightness at night isnt really effected. Its not quite as bright but it certainly isnt bad.

Mxrider52 yes it is 20% tint. Its comes off pretty easy just gatta get your finger under a edge and peel.

Thanks for the pic and reponse. The tint looks good. The light output is still pretty bright.

I am just debating if I wanna go this route or buy some nightshade tint. Well I am gonna be tinting my bumper lights with the nightshade so I guess ill just hold off and see how that comes out and then decide what I wanna do.

Thanks for the comments.

ethnic6 It took about an hour. It was pretty easy with the lights out of the car. Just be liberal with the water and you can slide the tint in place.

Yea I looked at the Lamin-x and I'm thinking I'll do the headlights and fog lights. I'll do a light tint up front though. I think ima buy some cefiro's or the r34's 1st though.

maximafrenzy yea those are stock tails that I tinted. I think it actually looks better with them cuz it blinks orange. I have red smoked/clears but I figured I'd just use the stock ones since you cant see anything anyways. I'd have to say this is one of the better mods for stock tail lights.
