Rear 02 Selection Help

I've had a MIL P0136 (Rear 02 Sensor) reappear several times after I resent my ECU, so I think I have a real problem.

Most online parts supply websites show two rear O2 Sensors for '96 maximas. One is only $65 for cars "produced to 6/96" and the other is a whopping $100+ for cars "produced after 6/96."

Well, my ID plate on my cars show a manufacture date of 6/96!

So what the hell do I do? Both parts look similar online, with identical connectors as near as I can tell. I'd prefer an OEM replacement, rather than splicing wires.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Are we talking about the O2 sensor behind the cat? The 95-96 models had a 3 wire o2 sensor and the 97+ have a 4 wire sensor so look at the wiring and see how many wires there is.

Say I want to play it safe and just get a universal 3-wire sensor and splice the wire myself.

Are all three oxygen sensors the same? Is the rear sensor (after the cat) the same as the sensors upstream in the exhaust banks?

I only see one 3-wire universal sensor available. I guess that means they are all the same and I can buy this one and splice it in.

Thanks in advance.

I see under the driver's seat the connector coming thru from underneath the car. There is a white plastic ring with 4 tabs that I can push in.. when I do so, I am suspecting the ring will push out to the bottom of the car. I see the wires from the sensor coming thru a black rubber looking tube with a tie wrap on it..

When I get the new sensor... will I be reusing this foam/rubber gromet somehow ? Do I have to hack anything apart ? I am assuming the new one from oxygensensors.com (the oem plug $68) will not have the rubber gizmo on it ..

Just wanting to know what will happen when I remove this thing.. I obviously don't want a leak when I am done.

it's very easy to remove and install this o2 sensor. remove that rubber grommet, then disconnect the electrical plug that is right behind that grommet. then reuse the grommet and plug in the new o2 sensor.

As we were working on the B-pipe, the sensor was rotating in the hole on its own ...and then when we were knocking out the studs into the o2 sensor pipe, the wires just broke off the end of the sensor..

So no PB Blaster needed..and I see the sensor that I got from oxygensensors.com has the tie wraps, the rubber gromet .. all ready to rock n roll. Looks easy so far..

Thanks for the advice..
