wiring harnesses...needed???

I read somewhere that if you get Nokya 80/100 watt purple bulbs, wiring harnesses are not needed. They are much more wattage, but they are lab-tested and proven not to burn out sockets. Is this true? I really don't want to spend the money, time, and labor installing harnesses, and these bulbs are supposed to be REALLY bright. Also, are these lights too purple for everyday highway driving? I want bright lights, but I don'y want flashy-everything-turns-purple lights.
