LED Spoiler light

The 3rd break light on the Maxima hasn't worked since I bought it. I checked the wires and all connections are fine. The resistance across the light terminals is infinity (checked both ways, just to make sure), meaning that I need to take the casing apart.

Has anyone been successful at taking apart their LED spoiler light? Did you have to bake it? If so, what temps did you use?

I'm tempted to just use the same temps as in the tail lights walkthrough, maybe that will work... although we're probably talking about different kinds of adhesives here (haven't touched any other lights but this spoiler light yet).

Thanks!

go to the main page, the very main website page, notthe forum page. Go to maintenance and you'll find there how to fix your LED spoiler light, worked for me took like..... 15 minutes.

I just answered my own question... used a heat gun.

Unfortunately, my impatient nature required that I use the high setting... I ended up melting a bit of the light (won't show once it's mounted back).

I separated the lens from the base + electric board and it's BAD! Many resistors are corroded, etc. Will have to see what needs to be replaced and get to it.

Does anyone know what glue / sealant I can use to put the lens back on once I'm done?

I used epoxy, just be quick with it, total water seal.

good idea about the epoxy ... better make this a permanent fix then

The main resistor (at least I'm assuming that's what it is) is so corroded that it's beyond recognition. It's the only one on the same side with the LEDs (there's 12 180ohm resistors on the 'backside', and this lone resistor on the front side).

Is there a schematic for this light? If not, any ideas on what resistor to replace it with?
I guess I could try different ones until I achieve the level of intensity desired, but it would be quicker if someone has this written down somewhere.

tonq, I couldn't find that walkthrough you suggested earlier. Perhaps if it's not too much hassle you won't mind looking for it (pretty please!) Thanks for your help so far!

Either way, this little project is now postponed until Monday, when the electronics supply shop opens.

my bad ... tong. You've been extremely helpful, thanks!
Thanks for the link, it basically outlines what I did (minus the heat gun part). Thankfully the minor warping will not be visible once it's mounted back.

5 resistors for $0.99 seems like a ripoff, lol (just as well that there's no more Radioshack in Canada!
