Help CV BOOT broken still driveable?

My CV boot is ripped and grease is coming out and covering some of the underside of my car. I also hear a ticking when i drive under 10mph, in reverse or forward and the noise will stop(bearing?). Will driving hurt the car even more? Will it mess with a bearing or the cv joint? I am getting an entire axel put on next week and the mechanic told me this includes the cv joint and boot along with bearing?

If you don't know how long the CV was broken for, just buy new axles... The car is drivable. If you getting new axles, then don't worry about it.

I have had torn boots since oct, and I am still good.

Sounds like you CV joint is already bad because it has been leaking for a long time. You'll need to replace the joint too. If you catch a torn boot early and replace it (and the grease inside) you won't need to replace the joint due to it running "dry".

its fine. just makes a horrible noise after a bit, by then you should have it replaced. when you get the money change it basically.

dont drive on dirty roads or gravel. itll really get up there and dry out the joint if its been broke for awhile. roughly $30 for a new one. pretty easy job. if u get it done at a shop its $100. so its best to get the whole half shaft replaced because it will cost the same. ive had this happen 3 times

i second this! it's still driveable... but we suggest not on dirty, sandy roads...

I'm looking at doing my Axles (same issue as OP). I've had Axles replaced on other cars before, so I'm familiar with the tell-tale signs (clicking, poping). Anyway, I went to O'riely for the parts today and they're asking my if I have some kind of special transmission. I have a '95 SE manual, and he says it's not enough information, and I need to know what kind of manual transmission I have. How do I figure that out so I can get the right parts?

They will ask if you have ABS or not. And if you have a limited slip trans. or not.
