Noise (low pitch whine) near idle
I am hearing a noise that started fairly recently, one morning I started the car, pulled out, and when I came to a stop, I noticed this sort of low pitched whine or growl. If I were to try to guess, it sounds like a noise that might come from an electric motor, or compressor running.
I do not hear the noise when pressing on the gas pedal, and not 100% definite, but I think turning on the heat/AC system might reduce the noise.
It is not always there, for example, after my drive to work, I sat for a few minutes in the parking lot and put the car in drive, neutral, park, brake, no brake, ac on, ac off, and no noise at all. Yet it did make it when I left my house.
I have listened under the hood, but like I said, it does not always make the noise, so I have yet to hear the noise other than in the drivers seat.
Any suggestions?

I have this too but, it's more evident in cold weather, or is i don't let the car warm for a couple of minutes. When it's cold, and i'm warming up the car, just about when the idle reaches 1200 rpm, the whine starts. If i push the gas a tiny bit, the rpms go up and the noise disappears until the idle settles back where it was. The noise disappears after the car reaches normal idle.
In this weather i only let it sit a minute after starting, during this time, there's no whine. But when i start moving, reach about 30mi/hr then stop at a stop sign, there's a short whine while the idle settles to 650 and the car stops. (and so does the noise)
Sorry for the long post, but i've been monitoring this actuvity since September 06 and i don't know what to make of it. The're absolutely no noise @ any point if the oputside temp is higher than 70.

I haven't tried turning the ac on in my case, but in SSzretter's case it seems like it might be an AC compresor/bearing.

It doesn't seem to be the noise that i'm getting.
