Name that part (with rusty pictures included!)

After not driving the Maxima over the weekend I decided to take it out last night. So I'm backing out of the driveway and hear a crunch...and then see part of my car on the ground! Sweet!

So guys, any ideas where this came from and/or what it is? It looks like a heat shield towards the front of the exhaust/engine area that just rusted out but I haven't had a chance to get under the car and check yet. The two pictures are just of each side of the piece.

it's the heat shield that sits under the cat. damn, rusted in half. that's pretty bad. fortunately, you don't even need that part. get under there when you get a chance and take the rest of it off.

Yeah that's for sure a heat shield. Get under the car and make sure the bolts are still at least attached. If they are not it will rattle such as when you close the door or what not. You don't really need a heat shield anyway. I'm running no center console and no heat shield and unless im running at the track I can't feel any heat.
