Starting Problems...Gah.

As of lately I've been having some serious starting problems. It first started when I had a new clutch kit installed, but that was quickly resolved by grounding my tranny and starter.

Now it has started a whole new problem. When I turn my key, I hear a whirring sound which I'm assuming is the starter, my stereo and everything turns off as if its going to start, but nothing happens. So I'll sit there and keep turning my key a couple times, and finally something catches and it starts. After that everything runs fine.

I'm going to yank out my starter tomorrow to see if it's something with that, but I wanted some advice from you guys first. I just replaced my ECTS, no change. I have noticed lately that when I start up my car, I can hear a whining sound from my fuel pump in the back (unless theres something else that could be causing a sound like that?) Could this be a possibility? I'm going to need to replace it eventually anyways, but money is a little tight and the first thing I have to do is get this freaking starting problem fixed.

Just for more info, once the car is up it runs just fine, and the only codes its throwing is an 0505, which no matter how many times I clear it it always comes back up.

Any help is great, thanks!

ignition switch possibly. also make sure your battery terminals are fastened tight.

0505 code means there's no problems...i'd welcome that code back anytime of the day.

not starting either.

Yeah.. I have somewhat a similar problem. Battery has been replaced, new cables connecting battery has been replaced and the car still dies on me after 2-3 hrs. I've done the Alternator test by removing the + charge and it continues to run.
Took it to Sears and the guy swore it was the battery, showed him the receipt that the battery is new and he's like to replace it...... replaced the battery (under warranty) and still same problem.
