voltage issues? alternator possibly??

Hmmm.
how to start. Alright. I run a moderate stereo setup (1 1000watt and 1 240 watt four channel 1 trunk mounted eq 1 radio 1tv)thats it. The last couple of days ive been having some weird issues.
Initially my sub amp went into protection. Hooking up my multimeter voltage is dropping to 3.94 volts at the distro block. but if i check at the front i still have voltage of 14.2 or so.

Figure that maybe its a bad connection but as soon as the volume hits a certain volume off again, takes a minute then back up to 14 volts. In looking at it, i dont see a regulator or solenoid, is there any other component that could be lagging or causing the drop in voltage or do i need a new alt?

ive had it tested at auto zone, they say its alright.

post in audio forum or add a one or two 2 farad capacitors to smooth out the voltage

how is it wired in, directly to the starter battery... then to a distribution block?

Since the ground at the battery is physically different from the amp ground I would look there. Also if your power fuse depending on the type started to melt at all, it may have some sort of higher resistance. I would double check the amp ground tho to make sure it is getting a good connection, paint scrapped off, etc. I've seen some people do a triple strand ground with ring terminals. Basically it is whatever gauge wire but you split it in 3 and the rings are mounted close to each other to make sure at least 1 or 2 have a good connection.

ill try grounding somewhere else. hopefully thats it. I sanded it well enough, i thought. Ill go back to my last ground area and try that out. if its good ill stick with the old location. otherwise it has to be the alt. thanks yall.

if the ground is good and your connections are good (DOUBLE CHECK THEM PHYSICALLY PULL THE WIRES OUT AND DIELECTRIC THEM) then i would go with the alty/bat, with the voltage/wattage you are drawing I'd reccomend going with an aux bat and an isolator, I am doing that also just saving up the money right now cause my bat keeps running low(less than 11V) and I dont like the alty working so hard, plus I just toasted my 100A fuse mount due to a bad connection, and the fuse stayed intact, thats the worst part. Just take the time to double check cause I thought my connections were MINT until this problem.

and see...what kills it is it worked fine. I pulled the amp out for about six days It just seems strange that in reinstalling it would start dropping voltage from the alt. hasnt been an issue although theres been a "dip" for a long time (down to about 13.2). I went to a 3.6 ported enclosure to get a lil more bottom and cant even test it to see how much lowder it is . I did get one good note out of it before the stupidness though

Ill also swap out the fuse as its still testing for continuity across both sides, but thats really my last step to isolating the alt.

and im guessing the regulator is built in the alt? That may be the issue...

thanks for the help though.
