Well, after some little problems (such as the 1st 5spd transmission we tried being worthless) and wiring issues, the car started and ran on the first try.

The thing runs AWESOME and I am sooo very happy I did the conversion. I am still in Jacksonville, FL and leave in 5 hours (5am) to head home to Louisville, KY. I have plenty of pictures (about 30) and will be able to provide detailed instructions on conversion for all you other automatic boys.

5spd is incredible - best mod I have ever done

Standby for detailed instructions and pictures coming from myself and CBR2 (the guy with the brains behind the operation...)

RE: Stickshift Conversion...

Happy to hear it went well. You give all of us automatics hope. That is, if we are looking for hope...

Actually

First tranny's shifting rod was bent.. Got bent by the body shop guy that got some parts off of it..
Here is the parts Harold and Found we needed to do this:
Drive shafts
Brake pedal
Clutch pedal
master & slave cylinder
5speed trany.
Flywheel
Clutch
Pressure plate.
Shifter assembly..

Sweetsound, MEDSONIC is staying an automatic. I personally would never change the transmission setup in a vehicle, but have profound respect that makes the decision to do so and does it successfully. I just want to see how much work was involved.

How much did the conversion costed you? And how long did the whole thing took? More than a day, I would think. Very nice anyway.

Did you use parts from a 5spd Max or aftermarket parts?

overload...

well, I made the 12 hour drive back home to Louisville today with no trouble... I had doubts in the clutch at times, but now that it is broken in, it is BEAUTIFUL. The thing shifts AWESOME, drives smooth and is sooooo fast there is no way to compare it to my old automatics.. the fact that at 25mph, not touching the clutch, if I just gun it, it will light up the tires... this 5spd stuff is CRAZY how much more power you put down.

I just walked in the door here a few minutes ago and haven't had time to upload pics or anything yet so sorry kids haha...

The thing everyone wants to know... price, well CBR2, Charles, the guy in Jacksonville, FL who knew how to do the whole thing hooked me up w/ a donor car to pull parts from. We originally used everything that he listed from the donor car (I have a pic of your required new items for the conversion) including the tranny, but that tranny's shifting rod was screwed so we yanked that transmission all the way back out and bought another.. you need to find a place you can get the parts reasonably or you will kill yourself on price.

Once I get situated here, showup all the riceboys even more, party and get some sleep.... I will post the pics and instructions(CBR2 might have to correct some of these haha) late tonight or tommorow sometime hopefully

BTW: this thing will be at MAXUS !

Did you end up using a trannie with a LSD? What did you do with the bad 5-speed? Might be worth something for a person that wants to do a rebuild, while still having their car running.

Conversion

Cost will work out to be about $1000 due to the first tranny being bad.. But the automatic he has only has 80K of Fl miles and is perfect so guessing it is worth $500-$700 he will have spent ~$400 on the conversion.. It was a std 5speed from normal max... The one that was damaged came from a GLE so I think it is LSD.. I wish I knew how to tell because all it needs is the bar to be replaced and it is good to go.. Shoot.. If it is Harold could trade me out for it anytime he wants, all he has to do is get it fixed..

If I can have this done for less than $1,500 I'll do it this winter. How did you find someone who knew how to do it?
