TSX Retrofit finished

Hello all. I have just finished my retrofit. It took me a few days and a lot of planning but it is finally finished. These are 2005 TSX projectors in 1996 stock headlights. This is my first retrofit so let me know what you think about them. I do not have a HID kit yet so I no beam patters. I will post when I get the kit. Thanks to bklynzsleepy for helping me out.

Edit: No bezels or shrouds. I could not think of anything to use. Spent an hour at Lowe's with no luck.

You REALLY need to get some bezels in there at the very least. You're also kicking yourself in the butt by using the 95-96 headlights; you've effectively RUINED the beam pattern.

Good choice of projectors, but you may want to rethink some things before actually using the headlights on your car.

Yeah you wasted alot of time and effort, you should have gotten the 95-96 clear lens at least.

Take the projector out, and trash those horrible lights. At least get the R34 one pieces.

I'll see how they look when I get them on the car. I'm not going to throw them out because a few people say they'll be bad. I think they look good.

It's your opinion that counts mate! But ... you may see if you can find any better lenses, check the classifieds forums ... Will the 98-99 lense fit a 95 - 96 HL ???? If you look at the diff years .. you can see the diff in the lense. Good choice on projectors tho ... I am in the midst of fitting my A6 projectors.

I'd redo them with a headlight with clear lenses. Yeah you are going to get brighter light but your cutoff is going to be out of whack, not to mention any unwanted glare.

I don't think he made too huge a mistake... just get some CE clear housings and use the lenses from those, like gtr_rider did. Hell, if you want, you can even buy my old '97 housings and use those lenses instead.

umm, not a huge mistake but kind of stupid in my opinion. What you did is kind of like, shine a flashlight through a cloth, no matter how bright the flashlight the output still sucks. The whole idea of a projector is its "lens". However you have two lenses, one for hid and one for Halogen.

++++111111,

i have to say, those who have said don't worry about it, ehh it looks fine, are pretty ignorant. Why go through all that trouble, buying those expensive parts, and put them in shi**ty, cloudy headlights? defeats the whole purpose, plus it looks almost...retarded. first time ive seen something like this.
just my .02 cents

I'm glad at least one person likes them.

brandnew: cost was $235 plus nuts and bolts. Planning on 6000K.

I made a write up if anyone cares to take a look at it. Link.

It may have been stupid but I won't know if I'll like it until I get them on the car.

I didn't want to use R34 lenses because I didn't know if I would mess them up or not. These lights cost me $75 and came with corner lights and halogen bulbs so it was a good deal for me.

Just so no one else will say it, I heard everyone say that I should use a clear plastic lens. If you have something to say, don't say that.

maximized98: I'll let you know when I put them in. Someone should put a B'ham meet together.

What isn't a ricer bulb? I want something bright, I don't care about color. I'm either getting 4300k or 6000k.

VIP Maxima: No wiring for me because I'm getting the HID kit from the plug and play group deal.

take pic with hid on. curious about the beam pattern don't really care if it's going to be crappy beam pattern, since all you have to do just swap the glass part. good work though.

i saw in an issue of honda tuning where they sanded the lens. would be cheaper than getting another set of lights.

definitly do a lense swap like people are saying. at least with the swap you wont have to hack up another housing. but its your car if you are happy with them then leave it alone.

The headlights hes using are glass, I dont think you can sand them. 97+ Max's had plastic headlights, that why they turn yellow and get pitted. My 96 headlights still look brand new.

Did you do any test aiming of the actual projectors mounted in the housing in the car or are you just going to use the headlights OEM aiming posts to aim them?

Some people do sand the glass headlights on there retros, Ive seen it done not on maxima but other vehicles.
Without clearing the headlights, the beam pattern isnt going to as nice.

Because it has already been covered many times. Many sites also have detailed diagrams of them, as well as premade wirring harnesses available.

you're definetly going to need a shroud of some kind just to avoid the glare that its going to produce being the way it is now. since you're using the 95-96 headlights there shouldnt be a problem with what you use cosmetically since you cant really see it. just do everyone else a favor and put on a shroud so dont bilnd the crap out of people with the glare.

you're also not going to get the nice clean cutoff that you should get with the tsx projectors since the stock 95-96 headlight lenses are not clear. im not saying this just to jump on the bandwagon but from personal experience. you're still going to get far superior light output compared to halogen but just not as clean as if you were to use a clear lens.

beside that good work.

*edit*

why would go out and buy quality projectors and cheap out on the ballast and bulbs. you can go ebay or even hidplanet and find oem ballast and bulbs for just about the same price as the GD low quality stuff.

How will the shroud prevent glare?
no lights escape from the sides of the TSX projector.. it's an enclosed unit??
shrouds only complete the look of the retro.. nothing to do with glare control..

I'm going to use the OEM aiming posts. Though it may not be the best way, probably should have test aimed the projectors. I have them in their as straight as what I think is right. When I get new lenses I'll probably end up test aiming the projectors but I'll see if they are off.

I didn't know the GD HID was not very good. I'll search around hidplanet and ebay.

The 97-99 lens will not fit on the 95-96 housings, I found that out the hard way.
In order to get the clear lens you will either have to buy the glass 95-96 clear lens headlights, or the plastic 97-99 ones, or the last option which is snad and polish them. However I feel thats really too much work when you can get a new set of headlights for 100 bux.
I went with the clear glass 95-96's.

Wait 96 has clear type lens?! And also the 88$ shown in the post after yours , are those headlights good? Like I heard with some aftermarket the housing will melt!
