My rear suspension beam on my 96 I30 needs to be replaced. Is it possible to take the suspension from a wrecked 4th gen maxima and use it on my car? What parts are the same? Can I just take the beam itself and not the attached components? Thanks

Auto parts recyclers (that's the new name for junkyards) have a book called the Hollander Interchange Manual. This is the Bible of their industry. This book will answer your question.

AFAIK the 4Gen Maxima and I30 are mechanical twins. I believe any and all parts of the rear suspension are interchangeable.

It is uncommon for the beam to require replacement. It is not a wear-out part. What happened? Collision damage?

Re: Hollander Interchange Manual
I purchased the I30 from an "Auto parts recyclers" in my area. It had some damage in the front and the rear. From what i was told, the rear beam is bent. I'll take a look at it this week when it gets out of the shop. I also wanted to do a little work myself to get to know my car Unfortunately, the people i have spoke to at the yards aren't sure if the parts are interchangable. They try to sell me the beam along with other parts attached. They also mentioned I might need to take the suspension from a max with ABS brakes. It might be easier to take the beam and the parts attached.

Please put your I30 in the hands of a top-notch alignment man. He may tell you that all is well. He may be able to correct a small bend. Some vehicles (such as Ford pickups) have front suspensions which are "adjusted" with a hydraulic bender made for this purpose. The bending is done with the vehicle on the alignment rack, without removing the rigid axle beam. Perhaps a defect in your I30 rear beam could be corrected the same way.

Hmm...must have been in a bad accident to bend the beam axle, which is a very strong component. I would also have the rest of the frame checked out by a body shop. Not alignment shop, but rather a body shop, which has tools to test the overall structure of the vehicle, not just the wheel alignment. A bent frame may lead to dangerous handling characteristics for the vehicle.

But yes, the I30 beam should be a direct fit for the Maxima, since both cars are for the most part mechanically identical.

Re: i30cefiro
The front end that I have on my I30 is completely custom done, its the stock I30 front but with the Stillen kit for the Maxima. I had to buy two front lips to make a larger front lip and mold them onto the bumper of my I30 so it looks like just one piece. Very difficult and expensive work.

Well let me say that is the sweetest I30 I've seen.
Do you know how to get the cefiro body kits to the US? I was told that you have to have a contact in Japan buy it.

Yeah you do but for one thing the body kits for the Cefiro are very expensive by them selves, then you have to pay for shipping and taxes...too much money, rather custom it
