Acceleration issue

Got a quick question and a video to help explain it.

When i go WOT, on the streets or on the track, when i go WOT in 1st, shift into 2nd, after i finish shifting, i get back on the throttle..all this happens fast, but after..its like the car doesnt acclerate for a good moment..like the speedo stops moving, it stays at 80KMH for a bit then starts to go, but while this is happening the tach is still moving.

Now ive watched several differnt videos, and i havent seen any do this. I have the whole 5th gen clutch kit(pp, friction disk and to bearing) in there now, it has maybe 20,000kms on it. My old clutch did the same thing, i never really figured out why. Just wondering if any of you other people had this issue?

Is it just how i am shifting or something?

Dont laugh at the acceleration..i know its not fast..but its pretty damn quick for what it is though.

Was a bit hard to see (I'm auto so looked kinda normal) but did it do the thing at 70kms? Camera jerked on the change.. I mount my camera to the top of the steering wheel for speedo videos, were you holding it?

Normal, It's the dog part of the gear as we call it. Just be glad that our 3rd gear isn't like the mitsu eclipses... you litteraly have to redline 2nd gear and shift at the right moment to get 3rd back into the motor's power range. BTW wtf are you doing driving a stick and holding a camera.......

Seems normal to me.

Generally speaking anytime the tach is moving and the speedo is not, your clutch is slipping. A little slip is fine when you're really on it, since you're not taking the time to revmatch. Waiting a split second on the throttle will stop it. Putting in an even heavier clutch will just apply more shock load to the drivetrain (which Maxima's can't handle, esp. in 3rd).

Alright man, here's whats happening.... I used to own a camaro Z28 that would do this as well, but I always knew why, so it never bothered me. Cars usually hook the drive wheels to the speed sensor, so if you are generating wheel spin, then your speedo will read higher than it should.

What is happening with your car is when you shift 1st to 2nd, you are generating wheelspin, and it is jumping the speedo probably about 10 KMH faster than the car is actually moving. Since it is not a big enough gap between wheel speed and actual speed, the speedo doesn't really have time to drop back down to actual speed before the car really is moving that speed, thus causing the speedo to look frozen at one speed for a short amount of time. This why you don't notice anything when you shift 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 4th. Those gear changes generate very little to no wheel spin.

When I would shift hard in my Camaro, the speedo would jump about 15-20 MPH and would actually fall slightly back down to equal actual speed, since the car wasn't accelerating that extra 15-20 MPH within the split second the wheel spin ocurred.

So yes, it's normal (and your clutch isn't slipping).

Ahhh yes i seee. Makes sense, i dont know why i never thought of that. Because it does spin during the shift.

Yes shifting, controling the steering and recording takes some precise skill. Actually when i did that one i just turned down some road so i quickily busted out the cam, i didnt totally stop cuz a car was coming up behind.

so whats my shifting like? its gotten a lot better from what it was before LOL..

Your shifting looked pretty good. Generally speaking, in a car with respectable power (and a working clutch), you'll chirp at least the 1-2 shift. Yea, I have some videos I took of my camaro with my holding the cam and having to shift. It's not easy, haha.

Exactly what he said. Great post.

If there were clutch slipping involved he would not have chirped the tires and thus the speedo would not have jumped.

Your shifting makes my engine mounts and transmission cringe. However, in terms of drag racing potential it's not bad.

forgot one thing when the wheel is going faster than what ECU is picking up the ABS light automaticly comes on, i would bet more on the fact that gauges are mechanical readouts, meaning that from the time it takes the needle to rise up on the dial thus the delay if you were using a digital readout i bet the problem would never happen
