I just put on my Stillen Y-pipe and RT cat. The car has noticably more power but it doesnt seem to be much louder. I bought the Stillen because it is suppose to be the loudest. It does make the exhaust deeper and louder than stock but my PR CAI is louder. Will the exhaust get louder if I have a custom dual cat-back exhaust done to it? Is the stillen muffler louder than a flowmaster? I want to put 2 of the loudest mufflers on that I can find with 3.5" tips(classy ones though, not the ricy ****). If I go with 3" tubing from the cat to the mufflers will that also make it louder? Someone on the .org has a quote in their sig that says "When I start my car I want my neighbors to think the world is comming to an end!" and that is exactly what I want. Any suggestions on how to make it louder will be appreciated.

K

P.S. Im not dissing on Stillen, I just thought it would be louder, Im VERY satisfied with the power gains, just not the volume of the exhaust.

I just did my exhaust

I wanted the complete opposite of you. I wanted a quiet and big power gaining system that doesn't lose on the low end. My system did add a deeper tone to the car, but not loud. I went with the stillen y-pipe, courtesy b-pipe, and 5th gen muffler. If you want to add sound, lose the RT Cat (I heard it actually quiets the system) and/or replace the muffler. You'd want a flowmaster or one of those $10 turbo mufflers to make it loud. The stock Calsonic does an excellent job in muffling the system. I have no idea why you want it loud, but I guess some people like that kind of thing. My other cars are loud from old age, so I like to keep the Maxima quiet.

I DO NOT want my car to be ricy. I want a LOUD and DEEP sound. I am well aware of the fact that louder doesnt necissairly mean faster. I know a TON of little honda ricers around here that just have an exhaust tip to make it louder. I just want it to sound deep and loud! Like I said above, I will be putting on a custom dual cat-back exhaust system on soon, will a bigger pipe be louder/deeper? If it will be louder but more ricy I wont do it. In my home town I dont need to worry about emissions, BUT I spend 8-9 months a year at college where there are strict emmissions laws. I got the RT cat because it is a high flow cat. Dont get me wrong here - I would have the entire exhaust striped off the car if it turned out to sound ricy. I want DEEP and LOUD. If you know how I would be able to acomplish this please post it. If you want to compain about my desire to shake the earth when I rev it up, go to another thread and do so.

In your quote.... "If speed kills...do breaks give life?"

You might want to check the spelling......assuming that you mean the BRAKES...or binders.....stoppy clampy things....etc....

Hahaha, thanks medicsonic.

Aaron95se - chill bud. You voiced your opinion, I agreed with where you are comming from and now your ****ed eh? Take a deep breath and chill out mate. And as for the quote - that is the way it was spelled when I recieved the quote from a friend and just copied and pasted it there, thanks for pointing it out though. Oh and the explination as to what brakes are was very helpfull also(If you also look in my sig you will notice that I recently replace my entire brake system(New rotors, pads, fluid, lines...)and am aware of what they are).

I'm sorry bud. A guy on another thread was busting my b***s pretty hard about racing(he thought I ment street racing, while I put 1/4 as part of the description...but that is another story in itself) and then I came to this thread again and saw that and went off on you. I'm sorry for doing that. *Slaps wrists* I just took what you said the wrong way since I was in that kind of mindset. We cool?

Haha, I hear ya, but I was agreeing with him that street racing was bad. In my post on the thread I said that I raced a guy on a track and this guy starts preaching to me how street racing is bad. Oh well, he doesnt even believe in taking his car over 3,000 rpm's! His loss, he will never experience just how powerful his car really is.(I know of atleast one person on this site that hasnt street races anyone)

Due to the fact that the Stillen exhaust isnt loud enough for me, tomorrow I will have a custom dual cat-back exhaust done to my car. Here is what Im having done. 3"pipe from the cat to where the current muffler is. Replacing current muffler with a flowmaster camero one. The exhaust part that comes out of the muffler will be 2 1/4" pipe and run about 6". The other pipe will exit the rear of the muffler(towards the front of the car)and wrap around the spare tire compartment and exit the vehicle in a newly cut hole in the bumper. This new exhaust section will be 2 1/2" pipe. There is a difference in the size of the 2 pipes leaving the muffler because I want them to sound the same when the exit the tips. I am not loosing any flow here since I am upgrading from the stock 3" to 5 3/4". I will post tomorrow night about how this sounds. I hope it is loud enough for me, I know it will be deep enough. And if it turns out to be ricy - it is comming off the car on friday.

Before you try all that... why not try disconnecting the muffler and see if you like the sound?

I have a Budget Exhaust y-pipe, stock b pipe, stock cat, and a straight pipe after the b-pipe with no muffler, it's on the loud side, but it sounds nice.

If you like the sound, just get a muffler shop to make a straight pipe the duplicate where the muffler went (if you leave it open under the car, it's LOUD in the car). Shouldn't cost you more than like $60 to get the pipe made with the appropriate flange. If you don't like it, you haven't spent anything and can get you custom exhaust made.

Yeah.. Loud is great. Especially crusing down on a highway at 80mph for 4 hours when you might want to listen to your tunes. All that noise droning at 80mph is great.. yeah.. go for it dude.

I went the opposite. I'm going for power gains, stealth looks and a low, deep sound that DOESN'T drone at typical crusing speeds. After a while, that loud, noisy, look-at-me sounding exhaust system becomes annoying as hell, but then, I guess you have to try one first and then find out. I found out the hard way with my Z car. It was loud as hell and it was fun when I was in my early 20's. Now I'd just as soon be stealthy, look over at the unsuspecting ricer next to me and blow him away. To each his own I guess...

Courtesy Exhaust system

If you don't like all your exhaust work, Call Vince at Courtesy Nissan parts. They have an exhaust systme made just for them that he says is loud enough that Dallas police has written a couple of warnings and tickets for.

By the way. What are you going to do with the Stillen Y pipe????

Hey krismax,
At what point in your upgrades did you add the UR pully? I am installing mine this weekend and wonder what to expect. Right now I have teh PRI CAI installed and am waiting on the Y pipe. Was the difference extreme or not? The CAI is somewhat noticable. The Auto downshifted this morning and barked the tires so I am curious what the pulley will be like.

I hear your point, BUT I am not even in my 20's yet - and I tested it at 80mph and it doesnt drown out my music(mostly because I have a ton of power going to my tunes). I want people to look at my car and think, "Does he have a V-8 in there? Could he make one fit?" I love pulling up next to ricers and beating the pants off them too, I just want them to feel me pass them as well as see it happen. I am keeping the Stillen Y-pipe(sorry if you were hoping I would sell it) because I like the deep sound it adds to my custom exhaust, I just wish it itself were louder. The custom job went great, I cant wait to track test it tomorrow night.

Well the stupid thing i did ,is i put on greddy cb for first mod ,i was very upset i didnt feel or really here a differents. So my next mod udp was put on again, no change?! Then i put on intake and the change was wonderful i couldnt stop from smoking the sticky 235's.
In conclusion i should have put intake on first because i didnt feel individual mods i needed more air for combuston.

Good G*d, the custom job with all the other mods droped my 1/4 by .75 of a second. I probably could have gotten more with more back preasure due to a single pipe, but I LOVE the sound Im getting out of the custom job. Thanks for the input guys, If(or when) I get tired of this I will convert it back to single exhaust and see if that goes faster.
