i did it!!...after hundred put into car (pics)

edit: title should say hundreds

note: this is basically just to update you guys on my cars recent progress and show it off a little

so for the last month i devoted myself to my car, making it look better (imo) and doing the maintenance (no more cel!!!) i threw down several hundred dollars and put in a lot of work. everything was done myself.

project list (all within about the last month)

1. switched out all dash and gage lights for red leds
2. put in new k&n cone filter (pop charger intake)
3. replaced water pump (my old one was leaking coolant)
4. cleaned the throttle body and IACV
5. installed clear corners and removed front license plate
6. cleaned the egr system
7. replaced headlight bulbs with silverstars (ebay knock offs for real cheap)
8. installed budget y pipe, replaced faulty o2 sensor while at it
9. put on an injen exhaust tip (only cause my roommate got 2 for free and gave to me)
10. installed aftermarket tail lights
11. installed grille inserts
12. cut down stock shifter and put on new ****

before all this the exterior looked pretty much stock and i had 3 cels: bad o2 sensor, egr system hi/low flow, bad knock sensor (did last summer).

now i am cel free, and my car looks like this:

to reward myself for my hard work i road tripped to chicago (from madison wisconsin and milwaukee) and cruised all night with a friend. 500 miles total in one night
here she is:

well thats it, thanks for checking this out. next summer im gonna try to save up for suspension and wheels to really make her look nice.

btw being code free gave me about 36 mpg average for my whole trip to chicago.

i also have pics of everything else if ppl are interested (inside engine and car interior)

oh yeah i keep remembering more stuff. im gonna get a lip spoiler put on too soon, my friend does body work and is painting it for free but its not done yet

one last thing to know: i know my car isnt as decked out as alot of ppls on here (kitted and lowered) but ive only had my max for a year now and im a poor college student.

Couple things i would say it have the nissan emblem on the mesh grill instead of behind it. That way it looks more authentic.

Second get ride of those rids and please get some red/clears, or even euro red/clears from ebay.

im gonna leave the grill how it is incase i want to go back. my brother got those same inserts for his integra a while back and they rusted. i painted mine with wheel paint and clear coat to prevent it but just in case.

also i know i got altezzas but i think it goes with my car since its black and i got the black housings. if i were to have gotten the chrome housings then i would deserve all the flaming in the world for it.

Pretty clean, you should paint the grilles black and get some red/clears.

Tails . ew altenzzas. Could have used that money on something else. Try painting the mesh black and put the emblem on the outside. I think it would look 10x better. Wheels would REALLY be a helper. Even though you're on a budget, try and throw sum factory fogs in there. Not that expensive. But other than that, you have a clean early 4th gen mah dude. Oh btw, your exhaust seems a little off centered.

HAHAHHA this is funny, THIS IS NOT NASCAR, u cant "draft" at 65 MPH, HAHAHA

those guys drive a lot faster and thats when they can pick the air off the guy in front of then, lifting it causes ur car to slip stream in a tunnel-like way...to do this - EVEN with a semi -- and have any affect on reducing air resistance you would have to follow that semi prettay damn close, were u inches away all the way to chicago ? i doubt it

So no u were just picking up rocks and dirt by following that semi, not "drafting"

Good job. I'd say save for some tint next, then wheels. But overall nice. Oh BTW I get 25 to 26 city and about 30+ highway so it's believable (speed limit in my area is 55 on highways, 65 on toll roads).

mythbusters tested that driving a Magnum at 55mph with a 100ft gap between the car and the semi, fuel consumption improved by 11%. 50ft at 55mph improved by 20%.
100ft is definitely doable.

Very possible to draft a semi...I noticed in another vehicle where I had instant mpg display, my mpg would shoot up 5 to 8 mpg whenever I was right alongside the semi's rear wheels in the next lane over. This happened every time I would pass a semi on a trip from souix falls to the twin cities with a V8 jeep of all things.

i didnt draft the semi at 2ft, im not retarded. i did at like maybe 40-50ft tho. anyways this isnt to argue my mpg. the point is i cleaned up the engine and got rid the codes and it majorly improved. like i said earlier i got about 460 miles on the tripmeter and about 1/8 of tank left.

for whoever asked my cels were egr hi/low flow (0302), o2 sensor (0503) and knock sensor (0304).

it does feel good now that ive done all this work and i think my car looks nice and feels nice. my car definately feels more powerful with the y pipe and more responsive. also i dont think my tails are rice since the black housings match the black paint. sorta looks like lexus style.

also ya i know my exhaust tip is off center...that is gonna be figured out/fixed soon

yeah u know what Killer is right, im sorry dude, i should have seen past the drafting part, you did do a lot of work on the car...

1. switched out all dash and gage lights for red leds
--> What resistors did u use? cause my led's burned out in like a month

2. put in new k&n cone filter (pop charger intake)
--> let me know how the MPG changes i was thinking about that earlier

3. replaced water pump (my old one was leaking coolant)
--> i hear thats a major biatch

4. cleaned the throttle body and IACV
--> this is my fav, i took mine completely off the car, did u do it like that too? i hope u bought brand new gaskets from the dealer

5. installed clear corners and removed front license plate
--> u sure its legal not to have plates in the front ? or did u put the license on the dash ?

6. cleaned the egr system
--> i should have done this when the IACV and TB was off, but the lower bolts scared me, did u use that write up with the pics ?

7. replaced headlight bulbs with silverstars (ebay knock offs for real cheap)
--> i put in sylvannia ultras, which are a step (or just a price level) above the silverstars, hows the out put ? i sanded my headlights and its even better now, but they could be better in the snow.

8. installed budget y pipe, replaced faulty o2 sensor while at it
--> power gain huh, i want one too, is it hard to install ?

9. put on an injen exhaust tip (only cause my roommate got 2 for free and gave to me)
--> i got a stainless one but its ike 2" diameter and the whole .org is laughing at me for it :-(

10. installed aftermarket tail lights
--> now these i dont agree with, not my style

11. installed grille inserts
--> looks pretty good, but not my style as well

12. cut down stock shifter and put on new ****
--> i wouldnt know anything about that since im auto

well ok its looks better than a naked muffler, and the only way to change that is to put on a stainless muffler, but i dotn want to do this because if i do and my exhaust rusts out then i gota replace thw rest of the exhaust -- would the same muffler fit then ?

so if i do change my exhaust its going to be the whole thing, Y, B, and whatever else

but right now there is no point spending money on a muffler if mine is brand new (dealer put it on when i bought the car last october)

Edit: here, wanna laugh ? its a 2" wide stainless tip, i hope u all have a good laugh, i like making people laugh

not sure of the exact measurements, but im assuming if the stock muffler didnt have the extra 'tip' on it it would look just like yours. ever thought of just welding on a new tip andrei?

not really, i dont really care for looks, vodka blurs it all together anyways and the car looks like a jag for some reason

no but i honestly i have no money for any more exhaust tips and welding, and all that... just trying to keep afloat by buying 91 octane for now, in the midst of changing jobs...

oh and i am drinking some Stella Artois right no; that is beer made in Belgium

You could just put a bigger tip on.. when I was stock (see sig) the stock exhaust was 2" but they(factory) put another tip around it which made it about 2.5"

[edit:doh just saw your earlier post re:tip]

Ahahahah im so laughing at this americanized post.

dude this is a maxima site, do u think many terrorists hang out here? hmm lets see.. Kevlo just got promoted he could be a taliban suicide monster in hiding... then we got the phenryv1 who seems to have gone into hiding lately .. or is he ? maybe he is training with the al-quaeda in afghanistan mouintains...

then we have the rest of the terrorist bunch which i cant name due to KGB security reasons.

cmon man let these home land securors make my day -- do u really believe what u just said? i mean i know they "filter" emails and phone conversations down south of the border -- nevermind that its illegal -- or wait, bush signed a law saying thats actually OK!!!

oh and if u wanna have a real laugh, (ironic actually) go to youtube, search for a vid thats called something like Top gear in America -- there are like 6 parts to it and i really encourage you to watch them all

sorry for the stupid rant - i hope i don't get banned for saying Bush Sucks on this site i really do

I think the car looks nice man..

as far as the tails, i think if it didnt have the lines goin across them like that it wouldnt look that bad, but i agree with the black housing since the car is black itself, i would recomend picking up some new headlights too with the black housing to match..

the grill is alright, but not my style particularly..

and when u get the chance, get soem new wheels, even if its the factory 5 spokes or the newer gen max/nissan/infinity wheels. u dont nessarly have to go aftermarket
