need to replace a/c compressor
ok here is the deal. My a/c bearing has crapped out on me but i failed to get the clutch off so i decide to just replace my old unit with another used model. Now i havent done anything with a/c before so i m not sure what issues to expect.
so far my plan is to take it to the shop and pay them for evacuate and discharge. Then install my old unit with a used one and replace old o-rings with new ones and the drier as well.
Now i now that i need to put in the exact amount of compressor oil into the replaced unit but does anyone know where or how to access the opening for me to drain and add the correct amount of oil????
Also can i just add the freon with those over the counter r134a cans to the correct pressure my self or do i need to take it to some shop and have them do it? Although sometimes i doubt if they also use those over the counter freon cans instead of a fancy equipment to add the freon. Any thoughts?

i would take it to the shop and let them do it...cause you need to discharge it, drain the oil, change compressor, vacuum, add oil, and then charge it again... i would not reccommend the self charge kits... our cars take 2.6 lbs of freon...
I recall the fsm stating that the refrigerant charge is 1.43 lbs which is shy of 2 full 12oz. cans of the over the counter R134a, use pag oil, check the stickies or fsm to get exact amount needed I don't remember it. As for draining the oil most of it will be in ur comp, change ur drier- ur plan sounds o.k., just make sure used comp is functional.

There is a drain plug on the bottom of the compressor:
1. Drain your old compressor and note the amount.
2. Drain your used compressor and fill this compressor with the same amount of new PAG46 oil you measured from your old compressor. Add 0.1oz more if you replaced the dryer also.
I do suggest to get a new Calsonic CWV618 compressor from the web. They are around $300. Much lower risk than a used one.
