Yay, car accident -_-

So, just got the max up and running from the broken MAF and its back down for the count. came around a bend, up to a stop light, but the bend was adjacent to a highway that also had lights, and with the landscape they lights were angled towards the center of the intersection. Came around the bend, thought it was green, when I got around the building the bend went around I saw the red lights, slammed the brakes, slid through into the intersection and bounced off the wheel of an F-150.

F-150 damage: 1" surface scratch no denting.

Maxima damage: Bent Hood, Possible Bent Frame, Smashed passenger clears w/ bulb harnesses gone, grill frame broken, passengers lights shifted. Right turn signal blinks super fast now, and the cop said something about my brake lights not working, bumper is f'd for sure, half of it is sitting next to me.

The story I told the cop was I pressed the brakes too hard, ABS clicked on and I slid through. Which is for the most part true, I just left out the "I thought it was green" which I thought would have sounded pretty bad. Either way, I didn't tell the cop so I can't use it at my court date. My options are to pay the $85 Careless Driving ticket and take 2 points, or see if I can get 0 points with a $400 fine. Any thoughts?

Fanaticrockford you'll be hearing form me, I'll need everything listed up top. And if anybody has just the passenger side of some clear corners?

Pictures tomorrow

Bent frame, say bye. At least you're ok

Try and get "unsafe driving">> NO points is always better in Jersey

not sure how it works in US, but if anything like in canada. depending on the situation, keep your points as low as possible... cause losing two means that that gets your one "keep your liscenece free card" for the big offences. ie.. excesive speeding. which normally will leave you with just a couple opoints.. but if those are gone... bye bye liscence .....

The passenger blinker blinking faster than normal is because the front bulb is smashed (if there at all).

you should have told the cops, careless placement of the lights is actually a valid argument in court (unless you really were just not paying attention).

You should live in houston. You wouldn't believe how many lights I have seen malfunction and give green lights to multiple people. Like the day before yesterday coming home from work a light gave a green to all 4 directions at once! It was chaos lol. I would have liked to see the look on the cops face when someone had to explain that one to him.

i'd pay the $400 and be done with it. points stay with you for 3 years...can you afford 3 years of increased insurance rate? the extra $315 will be nothing compared to the point induced insurance rates you will have to pay.

Yes we do have "points" in Houston. Points go on your driving record. If you get a certain number within a certain period they will suspend your license.

For your enjoyment....

License plate torn right off ^ Had to get new plates this morning

The gap between the fender isn't hood related, hood is in fine condition besides the front crunch, but the fender is pushed back some and it grinds a wee bit when the passenger door opens, missing paint in that crack too. I'm hoping this doesn't mean frame damage, and if it does, is that minimal of damage reparable do you think?

I can hardly see the pics man, could you make them a little bigger?

From what I can see though it doesn't look that bad. That's not frame damage, that's your bumper support. It sucks to have to fix your car but it's all cosmetic

I actually can't, or I'd have to reupload them, I had them at 2048x1024, but it was ridiculously huge and its a pain for people to scroll so I put them at message board size, it was either 800x something ore 680x something

EDIT: Er, yeah, sarcasm, oops heh... disregard

I probably should slow down, and the accident wouldn't have happened had I thought the light was red, I'm thinking about taking pictures of the site, and presenting them to the judge at my court date. But if the officer is there, which I'm pretty sure they have to be, he'll mention that I didn't mention this.

Following that same line of thought, I DID slide through, and I DID hit my brakes hard, so I didn't lie to the cop, I just omitted certain truths, thoughts?

well, i had a similar accident when i was younger, i was cruisin pretty fast on this back road that was straight until it beared right at the end and all of a sudden i see a new mustang stopped on the hill way before the light and slammed on the brakes and i knew i was screwed but managed to slow down enough that all i did was push in her rear bumper. my car of course was a bit smaller, ( nissan stanza ) and the front bumper was pushed in and the hood bent in 2 like a tent. ******* car was just re-painted and i was all happy going to the credit union to pick up some cash on a friday. live and learn....

for sure, I've shrugged it off by now, I'll suck up the hit to the wallet and deal. besides it'll give me an excuse to change my headlights, or replace the hood with a cf one, maybe then I won't drive so fast for fear of hurting the hood

eh, never mind, I probably will

I think I'm the only one that likes the 95-96 grill...

I'd put back on a 95 bumper just to keep my grill type, unless I can get flava to give me his

I just need to get to a body shop and have them check for frame damage. I'm not sure if the passenger fender is bent back because of the clips or because the frame shifted

That damage isn't much man, i'm willing to bet that you may only need to replace the p/s fender. i had serious damage to the upper frame rail and it had to be pulled back out before the new rad support was welded on. My pass. side took a much harder hit than yours though. From what i see in your pictures you should be fine with just a new fender, bumper, etc. if the impact was substantial enough to bend your frame, then your airbags would have probably deployed too.

If your going through insurance then this car is totalled. I have much lighter damage than yours and mine was totalled. I kept the car though. Runs fine. I got a new bumber for 50 bucks. Bought some paint, clear, and waxes for about 100 bucks and paint it myself. I am still waiting to find some cheap fog lights though. Good luck with your car.

Yeah after looking at it closer today, the p/s fender is held in near the front by clips the stick out towards the middle of the car, and are screwed in. The clips seemed to have bent back, so I might be able to just bend them back or get new fenders
