According to the Chilton's manual on page 4-27 the malfunction is detected when "A/T control unit does not receive the proper voltage signal from the sensor."
Possible causes are:
1. Harness or connectors (the sensor circuit is open or shorted)
2. Revolution sensor.
I can't find any other reference to the sensor in the index. I'll check some other sources and get back to you if I find more info.

Here is a drawing showing the location of the sensor and the sensor connector. The revolution sensor is the "speed sensor". Is your speedometer working? I would check the electrical connector first, then use a volt-ohm meter to test the sensor at the connector (see the next post).

Eta mashina provodet bolshe vrema v shoppe u mechanika chem on na nei ezdit... esli na mashine est frame damage, yeyo nikak ne pochinesh shtobi ona bila perfect.... no hui yeyo znayet kak silno bil udar...

Ok people i have one thing to say. StarTAC+maxima=OTB.
Speak English because even if i speak russian its still hard to understand. And i think its my fault to have all these Russian people joining this web-site cause i am the only 1 with MAXIMA.ORG sitcker on my window in Sheepshead bay.
