autozone or raxles

I need to replace the cv axles and I was wondering if should pay the extra money for raxles or get autozones axles. For the price of one raxle I can get both axles from autozone. Do the autozones last and are they of good quality. They both have lifetime warranty. Give me your thoughts and experience.

Because not too many people are breaking parts store axles? Nealoc went 11.7 on (presumably) parts store axles (http://forums.maxima.org/showpost.ph...92&postcount=6)

96sleeper launching at ~5k on slicks with an autozone axle, no problems (http://forums.maxima.org/showpost.ph...50&postcount=3)

Jason R says he's broken one of both, but that's a given, everything's gonna break at some point (http://forums.maxima.org/showpost.ph...10&postcount=4)

Looks like the chances of breaking a parts store axle in a situation where an raxle would hold up is slim.

I'd bet that a raxle would hold up a lot better compared to a parts store axle. I'm not the type of person who goes cheap on parts that keep a car running. I'd rather pay more and knowing that I have a quality part that will last for quite some time.

Considering he is lowered I don't think raxles are over-rated, get 'em, lifetime warranty no shipping, 'nuff said.

Depends on who's doing the labor and how much your time is worth. Standard remanufactured parts are hit or miss. Some will last practically forever, others will die on you after 5k miles.

I've got a few years and probably 20k on Autozone (or maybe Advanced?) axles. Lifetime warranty certificates are in my records in case they are needed, but it would stink to have to use them. My car would be held hostage for a day and the cost of labor would still be incurred even if the replacement axle were free. Not to mention the hassle of trying to get your free replacement part under warranty.

If raxles are actually better (as opposed to more money for the same remanufactured part that they sell in autozone), then it might be worth double the price for them to not have to deal with the issue for a very long time. I'd want some clear evidence of their superiority, however.

I've seen autozone/shucks give out incorrect axles 4 times now, 2 of those times they were mis-labled. I've seen one fail with 10 minutes of the first drive, had problems with installing almost all of them (they don't like to properly install the retaining ring) and had to replace a couple after 6 months.

Raxles, I've installed 6 of them. Number I've had problems with?

0.

Enough said.

You get what you pay for, and Marty @ Raxles is an awsome guy to work with. There is something to be said for supporting those who support you. Going for the absolute cheapest parts by large companies hurts small business, then you all complain when only major chains sell parts anymore, and they suck. Well SUPRISE!

As a mechanic, I'll stick with Raxles.

Plus, Marty has good sense of humor, if you catch him when he's not too busy.

I went with Raxles, but again, if I try to take on Irish and the gang once or twice year at auto-x or if we ever get all our ***** out to Summit, I might need the durability of Raxles.

I've never had to replace axles, but if I did, I'd go with Autozone because they're local, I get them next day, cheaper, easy lifetime warranty to get them replaced with 1day turnaround.

I got napa ones(assuming they are same quality as autozone) They were both bad within 6 months of daily driving. I have Stechs with illuminas so I'm over 2" drop. I got Raxles and Marty is great to deal with and haven't had any issues with them at all. The raxles company is ALL about axles, I feel the quality difference is worth the extra money spent, and for the peace of mind knowing my axles are some of the best.
I would say there's several factors, lowered, $$ you want to/can pay and if you enjoy changing out your axles...

edit: I have never heard of someone regretting their purchase of Raxles axles either.

I'm going to stick with autozone axles until I have a problem with one that I believe is due to the quality (or lack thereof) of the rebuild. I've replaced a number of axles with autozone axles with no problems on all of my maximas and my cars are driven as hard as anyone on the forum and also lowered more than most (~2.75" on GCs on my 96, and on Ksports on my 95).

I used autozone axles on both sides of my 96 GXE (to replace torn CV boots)
I've got an autozone driver's side axle on my 95 GXE beater (to replace torn CV boot).
I've had a bunch of autozone axles in my turbo car. First replaced because of torn CV boot on driver's side. Then I got an LSD transmission so I needed an LSD axle, I went to autozone. Then I messed that axle up by accidentally tagging the threads on it like an idiot while trying to bang a wheelstud out, making it impossible to put the axle nut back on. So I had to get another driver's side axle - not autozone's fault - my fault. Then my passenger side axle bearing failed so I bought an autozone to replace the passenger side. Then I went back to an open diff transmission and had already sold my old open diff axle, so I had to purchase yet another autozone. None of these many autozone axles ever gave me any problems. knock on wood.

Oh yeah, I was mad at myself for being so dumb. I actually took the axle into the Nissan dealership to see if they had a thread chaser large enough for the axle threads but they didn't, I made the "mistake" of setting the axle on the service counter (not that it was overly dirty) and the dude there told me to get the axle off of his counter, like it was going to mess his counter up lol... grainger industrial supply didn't have a thread chaser that size either. So that axle is sitting in a box in my garage, basically brand new.

I attempted to use a file but I couldn't get it to work, I hit it with a sledge so it is pretty deformed. I need to get it on the lathe at work and just cut the affected threads right off of it.

I never had a problem with Autozone. I would suggest to go to O'Reillys before Autozone however.

i bought both of mine reman. axles from autozone like 2 years ago. they still seem fine. tho when i first got them on, the cv joints were clicking when i turned (which is why i replaced the axles in the first place), but that eventually went away. but really, after a bad experience with a rebuild altenator from Autozone, I don't mess with them for the more important parts. I'd prefer to deal with Napa or nissan.org.

I just replaced both of my axles w/ Raxles... the auto store ones went away after about a year and started leaking grease. I thought I would give Marty a try, and ordered both. The quality is MUCH better! His attention to detail and quality is amazing. After installation, the car is much smoother on the frwy. I wouldn't get anything else.
