I know a few people have changed the red security led to blue. How did you guys do that? I took the unit out and it had a led bulb in there, almost like the ones on the door switches. So, do I need to buy a different bulb? Any soldering involved?

Just take the led out real careful. The wire snakes around the grey thingie.

Once you pull off the grey thingie, you'll notice it was held up by two prongs.

Then when you get a blue LED, you have to make the blue LED's wires touch the two prongs with the grey thingie on.

In other words, take the red LED out, put the grey thingie back on and then twist the blue LED's wires so that they will slide into the grey thingie. Understand?

They should have the blue LED at Radio Shack.

I wish I could take a picture but my parents took the digital camera on vacation.

Can this be done on a '99 Maxima? Also, How do you get behind the dash to change the bulb? I've tried so many times to remove the dash underneath the steering column but I've been unsuccessful. Can anyone help me out?

Use a small flat-tipped screwdriver to CAREFULLY pry the plastic piece that contains the light away from the dash trim. It should just pop out with a little force. Just be careful not to slip and scratch your trim or mar the edges of the plastic pieces.

Yep, it can be done on a 99. Like Speebs said, just pop that piece out to get to it. You don't have to drop the steering column or anything to get to the security LED.
