For $150 I dont know what there is. If you can muster up $220 go to www.cattman.com and get the Place Racing CAI. I just put mine on and it is WONDERFUL! You will definatley feel the power gain. In a '95(which I also drive) you will notice about at 7-9 hp gain and about 17-20 lb/ft of torque. This is one of the best mods you can get if you are just starting out. Under WOT(Wide Open Throttle) it sounds like you have a small block V-8 under your hood.

I could be off on that #, but it FEELS like that much. I can spin the wheels much easier off the line than before, there must be a substantial torque gain with it.

What kind of installation is required? Could i do it myself? I know $150 sounded stupid... I've been looking for a long time now and i noticed how off that was.

The install is pretty easy. The PR CAI comes with instructions that are sufficient. You will need a hole saw(I forgot the size, 3.5" I think). All you do is take off all the stock intake stuff and you need to take out the battery and its brackets. Then you drill the hole. Next is the install of the part of the intake the goes directly into the engine, then the other connecting pipe. Then you take off the front part of your splash guard and put on the filter. Put the splash guard back on along with the battery and your ready to rev up the beautiful new intake.

Cattman has a special on the CAI, it's $200.

But I'm pretty sure it's not place racing's anymore. He now makes and sells his own CAI, but it the same thing.

I still don't understand. I know that the whole idea is to bring air from outside of the engine, but where does the filter go. Is it outside of the engine? This seems awfully strange. Somebody please give me a detailed install so I can understand this further.

www.maximadriver.com
Under the how to section

And yes the filter is outside of the engine, if you look under the hood, you cut a hole into the fender wall right behind the battery. The filter hides in the chamber that is behind the plastic of the wheel well

On Intake cuts

I know that when you go for something like the CAI you have to make a hole in the side. Thats the part tht scares me. How big of a hole do you make and how much danger is there in cutting or damaging the outside of the car. Also is it just a regular saw type equipment you can use or do you need something more powerfull / special to do this job? Do they make one where you would not have to cut anything?

The hole is about 2.5 inches wide.
Use a hole saw, it'll make your life much easier.

How does the warpspeedperformance.com cai compare to the place racing cai in terms of performance?? The price makes me think that it is very large.

WSP CAI

If you put them side by side, hard to tell the difference. Both 3" mandrel bent, theirs has a K&N filter, ours has a no name brand. You can purchase ours without the filter if you really want the K&N filter, we believe that ours performans every bit as well as the PR model. We have personally dyno tested our Y-pipes and posted results. Few believed us, so we now have several Maxima.org members getting there cars dynod with them and THEY will post results. One of the main reasons Dallas and I started making aftermarket mods was we were tired of paying too much for them. It's the USA, buy what you want, pay more if you want to.
