97 Auto GXE VS 5spd Eclipse GSX
#1
My friend just got a GSX Eclipse, its a 1997 and is completely stock. He wants to race me. Tomorrow I am having a full catback exhaust system put in and a stillen y-pipe. I already have an Intake. So who would win between the stock GSX and the Max with Intake,Y-Pipe, and full catback exhaust system? Thanks

I think the mods should help you out considerably, however since you have an auto, I predict he will win. If it is a GSX 5spd, remember its AWD so he can rev to 5k and dump the clutch which will literally slingshot the Chrysler

Yeah, I guess your right, im just used to getting stuff for really cheap because my dad works at a performance shop in Denver. I wasnt saying it was a bad mod, the only bad thing ive heard is that it makes the ride very rough. Hard shifting etc.. Thanks

RE: 1997 Automatic Nissan Maxima GXE vs. 1997 Stickshift Mitsubshi Eclipse GSX
The Maxima is at a large disadvantage due to the automatic transmission. Were they both automatic, it is most likely that the Maxima would win. However, the stickshift turbo-charged all-wheel-drive Eclipse will out accelerate and outhandle the Maxima*(*=assuming the driving can drive a stickshift properly). Do not be dissapointed if you lose, seeing that were it a competing stickshift your chances would be increased greatly. If you accelerate properly, you will be able to stay withing reach of him so that is he misshifts you will be able to overtake easily. The car has a very good 0-60 MpH time, however you will notice this is only in play from 0-40 MpH. Stay close, drive well, attack when the enemy screws up and you will have him right were you want him - Your rear view mirror

Re: RE: 1997 Automatic Nissan Maxima GXE vs. 1997 Stickshift Mitsubshi Eclipse GSX
In this case outhandling will not be a factor. It is just a straight run down the 1/4 mile strip. How close do you think I can stay to him? I know he will beat me off the line but my V6 has to start pullin on his 4 banger around 40mph doesnt it? Thanks

I raced astock GSX 3 times in a row->
And I beat him 2 out of the 3 times. The key to winning this race is distance, He will get a half car jump on you depending how bad you peel out. But once you reach about 60 you should be passing him. If he wants to race for one block or light to light forget about it. But if he is willing to go close to triple digits MPH you will beat him. In my race he jump me all 3 times but I was able to pull him in at around 60mph except for one time were we reached a red light so I had to stop.
Good luck and try to get a good jump!!!
