Vibration at idle in 'D'

Hi all,

My 1998 Maxima auto has been doing a bit of vibration while at idle in 'D'.

I have cleaned my IACV and TB, put in new spark plugs, there are no vacuum leaks, and the coil packs only have 20,000km's on them.

After cleaning my TB and IACV I noticed it was idling a lot smoother - but even so - still has some vibration. The car drives fine - idles at around 700rpm - no error codes, all 0505.

Here's the clue: In 'R' and at idle, there is no vibration - its smooth as. It only happens in 'D', '2' or '1'. I'm beginning to think I may need to get my tranny serviced or something. Has anyone encountered this before?

Cheers guys

It's shaking in fear of the SC waiting to be installed. 5spd swap time.

hahahaha.. yeah probably :P It has got worse since it arrived in the post!

Going to keep the auto. If I blow it up, I might get a manual

I have put a big tranny cooler on, and am still waiting to do the VB mod

I'm having this problem too. vibrates in D at a stoplight, but once i put it into neutral it's basically smooth. I had someone tap the gas while holding the brake in D, and I noticed that the engine rocked violently. Motor mounts are shot. Would also explain why i feel a thump when i press and let off of the gas while cruising. My car has the electronically controlled motor mounts, but I read here that you can put standard rubber mounts in with no CEL and no difference in vibration transferred to the cabin. Found a new set of 4 on ebay for about $100 (general consensus was that ebay/aftermarket mounts would be fine - beats spending ~$400 at the dealership) . Going to install them next weekend, most likely. Will let you know what happens.

alright changed the mounts and the vibration is slightly stronger now lol. not sure if it's because i didn't use an electronically controlled mount in the front, or because the mounts are new and need to break in, but the car's idle vibration is definitely worse. I don't really have a problem with it though, because my shifts are much better and 80% of the noises that i've been hearing from under the hood are now gone. Fair trade, i guess

yep, changed all 4. couldn't believe how bad they were, even the tranny mount and pass. side mount were shredded. vibration is puzzling though, yeah. most people said that there's basically no difference between electronic mounts and regular mounts as far as vibration. So, i dunno.

If you have a GLE I suspect it's the front electronic motor mount.

After I cleaned TB and changed plugs, my idle was so smooth that it was hard to tell the difference between N and D.
But then I had my alternator replaced in the shop. So when I came to pick up the car I felt vibration in N and much more vibration in D. So I told them "you fu$ked up my car" and bla bla bla so they got scared and offered me to refund my money for alternator and I would bring them another alternator and they will install it free of charge. So even with another alty from ebay it was vibrating but not that much. So I adjusted the belt tension and it got much better. But still I shouldn't have any vibrations in N.

So I think they could take my electronic mount and put a defective one. I have to play with this mount when I have time. If you disconnect it and it vibrates the same , then the mount is bad.

So what's the latest? I'm asking because I'm experiencing a similar problem. I think it could be my pully tenisionor that has something to do with it. I changed the belts a few months ago and ever since I get occasional squealing with the air conditionor on or driving through a puddle of water. When that happens, I have a tremdous loss of pwr.

It could be an injector or coil too.

if it squeals then, the belt is slipping. Tighten it.
