New Muffler

I'm looking to get a new muffler, anyone have any suggestions? I'm lookin for something that can be both fuel efficient and increase a bit of horsepower. Mainly I don't want to be that loud. I was looking into the Ractiv carbon fiber silencer from autobarn.com but I can't find it anywhere to see it in person. And my car is not that hooked up so i cant really put a big muffler on it either. The reason why a silencer would be nice is because I think it'll give it a nice sound with my intake and y-pipe. Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Closest to stock with gains:

1. 5th Gen muffler
2. Dynomax Super Turbo

Ossry but I don't think you really gain much mpg or HP from just a muffler. It might help with other mods but by itself.

Anyways I heard the Apexi WSII isn't too loud, it looks hella nice too.

Flowmaster? The sound is just right! Ractive is crap btw... silencer will hurt your performance just so you know... good luck

CAI, Warpspeed Y-pipe, and 5th gen. (2k2) muffler. Sounds custom, but not to loud.

Looks like everyone got an expensive taste. Stillen, Cattman, they're mad expensive. I wasn't lookin to drop 250 or more on this thing. I figured about 200 for the muffler and another 40-50 bucks to weld it but it looks like i might need to spend some more. Why do you think that the silencer will ruin my performance or make it worse? Does anyone know anything about these silencers? From what I saw at a junkyard today, it looked like a removable peice at the tip of the muffler. I thought that it was somehow silenced throughout the inside of the muffler giving it a better, deeper, and or smoother sound. Anyway thanks for your help.

Actually, looks like more people have stated 5th gen (stock) That gets my vote. You can find them for less than 100$ on eBay or on here in the classifieds.

Stay away from the silencers and just get the stock 5th gen unit. Performance will not be gained through a muffler alone with these cars. That and the stock 5th gen unit has supported nearly 250fwhp @ > 6000RPM without a problem, so that's reason enough for me.

No silencer is bigger than 1 or 1 1/2 inches. From all the ones i have seen. Youre going to lose performance, not gain. A silencer will make it sound crappy. You need a Flowmaster or a Dynomax. 50 or 60 bucks...or just go with the 5th gen unit like the other guy said.

Flowmaster 40 isn't much either, and every time I see this video I see its potential...

Ugh I want that sound...too bad the owner has failed to give any real details...

I thought it was, but you think I can achieve a similar sound with a stock catback, stock resonator, and a y-pipe on a VQ30? I know y-pipes usually make the sound more "beefy"...

I'll give it a try in the future...

Go with the 40 series Flowmaster and get rid of the resonator. The sound is awesome. Only thing is when cruising on the high way there is a constant sound. Many passengers find it annoying, but to me the driver i love it.

If you are looking to spend less than $250. You can always buy the PaceSetter Cat-Back. I got it with free shipping from Amazon.com for $230 and it was a snap to install.
