legitimate question

with the 5th gen's there is the 2000-2001 maxima which is the 5th gen and then there is the 2002-2003 maxima which is the 5.5 gen. How come with the 4th gen's no one refers to the 1997-1999 maxima as the 4.5 gen?

too similar, the 5th and 5.5 have different engines among other things.

But i have been wondering the same thing also,

I would like to have a 4.5 gen instead of just a 4th gen for my 97 HAHA

well the only differences from the 95-96 and the 97-99 is:

front bumper
grill
headlights
fog lights
trunk lid
tail lights
rear bumper
rims

for a while, I refered to them as 4.5gen, but people got confused.

Then 2002 came around and I started calling them 5.5gen and that stuck. very strange. I was gonna try 5v2, but that's confusing.

All 4th gens have the same engine, thus no 4.5

Engine changed for 2002-2003 which is why it's called a 5.5. Same car as 2000-2001, but different engine.

It's all based on the engine, nothing else. Not wheels, steering wheels, guages etc

sorta bad logic...then all 6th gens will be 5.5 gens if based on engine...right?

6th gen has a new body style. Naming convention starts over.

5.5 gen because huge makeover WITHIN the generation; I too say because of the engine...

4.5 gen because of the vq35... Other than that it is still a 4th gen.

Locked because no good will come of this and future whoring.
