Same problem with my car....

So since noone could of told me if it was IACV going bad or not...i decided to buy a new one...spending $150 to find out that it is NOT the IACV. The idle still does NOT hold when i go down to 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. I have an auto btw. So what is this. I'm not sure what it is n its pissing me off because the car would jerk n feel like its going to die. Is it really my tranny going out???

When you say its not holding idle in 1st 2nd and 3rd do you mean it dies? or say if you are on a hill and you let off the brake you roll back like in nuetral?

if it's the ladder your tranny is going....thats what mine did when my tranny went....dont wait dude soon you will start losing gears all together....

in the beginning it would be all messed up right after i warm it up. It would rev really high n will not accelerate till like 3.5 k rpm. But after 10 min or so of driving n reving high, everything will be normal and smooth like nothing is happening.

By not holding idle, meaning if you're going 25 mph in 1st, it should be at say 4 k rpm. But if i let go to of the gas, the idle should still somewhat be at 4k rpm and start engine braking. But instead , it'll drop down to 600 rpm when its at idle and sit there while the car is rolling. When you push the gas down, the rpms will not kick in until say 4.3k rpm where it WAS suppose to be at if everything was working properly.

And yes, sometimes when i let go of the brake, it will roll back like it is in neutral.

yes your tranny is on its way out.

This exact same thing happand to me. Then I lost 2nd and 4th gear. I was left driving around in 1st and 3rd... it sucked so I got the trans rebuilt.

Cost me about 1000 bucks to fix =/ got an upgraded VB and a trans cooler so that it wouldnt happan again. Soon going to put some redline or other ATF.

Lemme guess u shift ur auto right?

nope, i don't manually shift my auto.....but at 155k....i guess something is BOUND to go wrong......

so the question is...if i do rebuild my tranny..how long SHOULD the car last??? another 3 years??? I'm just thinking if i should just get a new car or something...

so how hard is it to swap another tranny in there...i think that my junkyard has one for like $500 bucks

what i would do is pick up a yard tranny try and get a 2000/2001. a lot less hassle plus you'll have a younger tranny in the car.

there's a junkyard by me who has a 98 i30 tranny. Wants $500 for the tranny. Supposedly just rebuilt too. He said it was his cousins car n it was a weird story about how it got t-boned but they didn't have insurance on the car, but got money for the car from the other guy. Anyways, is that a good deal or no...cause i might take it to do a rebuild. But then again it might not last that long after the rebuilt am i correct???

Anyways, how long do you think it'll take to swap tranny if its the first time...??

It will work, if you swap over the VB and solenoids. Changing out the solenoids is a good idea anyway, Nissan made a TSB and updated solenoid kit for a reason. Bad solenoids took down two of my transaxles...

When my tranny acted up I went and had my tranny fluid checked and replaced. my car used to stall out completely when i went to put it into gear before it was warmed up and after the flush it runs perfectly. the mech said it looked like it hadn't been changed in over 100k miles (there are 135 on it and i bought it at 115)
