hit* a skunk....

Cruising around in sub-urb SO-cal last night and I hit a skunk while my windows were down, and now I do feel awfully terrible about the accident, anyone have tips for getting rid of the odor instead of keeping a can of air freshener in my car all the time?

ok, so besides those two, I guess not really any other constructive ideas, how long on average does it take for the odor to fade away?

Depends where the "juice" hit, somtimes you may have some meat stuck in there too, depending how fast you were going. That's what happened to my friend.

He had a pressure washer, and he added some pinesol in one tank, and some bleach (only a little) to the other tank mixed with water. You spray it down with the bleach first, then really blast the car (BTW, have the car on jackstands or ramps) then, pinesol it, then blast it again. I don't know how good the pinesol part of it is for rubber parts etc, but it worked. He had a POS mazda 626, he didn't really care if it was a good idea or not, he wanted the smell gome.

Then, once this is all said and done, it should smell a lot better. I'd then clean your air filter, and replace you in-cabin filter as well. Hope you get that nasty-*** smell out man, GL

If the "good stuff" got on any rubber... It could be there A LONG time.

As a cyclist... I had a run in with a skunk at 5am.

I had a car coming head on at me on a hill and the cars lights made it so I could not see anything. Just my luck, as soon as I could see again... He was RIGHT in front of me. I hit my brakes and JUST missed him, but he sprayed me (you can actually hear it).

My tires and grips smelled like skunk for months till I finally broke down and got new ones because nothing would get rid of the smell.

I threw up when I got a good smell of the fresh stuff...

My eyes were all watery and I had to ride like the wind home half naked because I had to strip and throw away what I was wearing so I would not smell it, otherwise it would make me throw up.

No particulate filters on the A32.

That sounds like it would work, though. Like he said, no idea for how safe it would be, but it's worth a shot...

Take the car to an automatic car wash (one with an undercarriage spray at the beginning). Hopefully that will help get everything cleaned up. Good luck

Ohhh it's so... My only saving grace is that I was well layered cause it was well into the fall and cold in the morning... I rode home in only my cycling shoes (threw them out when I got home) and my cycling shorts (long pants on the side of the road) and it was like 45* outside.

I left my long pants, fleece zip-up, long sleeve jersey and gloves on the side of the road... It was an expensive morning.
