A/C Problems Still !!

Well I had a bunch of problems throughout the summer with leaks and such. Peplacing O-rings and recharging. I got it charged up last month and it was good for a fe days, and then I noticed all oil on my compressor and the got warm again so I bit the bullet and replaced the compressor with a NEW Nissan Compressor. Got it all charged up on Friday and it still doesnt seem all that cold. The shop that did it for me is a legit place for sure on a/c systems.

Is there a chance the Expansion Valve is faulty or maybe the system doesnt have enough freon. Im gonna go back on Monday and speak with him. Something is wrong still. Lemme know what you guys think.

p.s. I went out for lunch today, 94-95 in the hot sun, and the a/c didnt get cold on my trip to get lunch. Started getting cold right when I pulled up but nothing special. The place I went for nearly a mile away. Maybe I am just expecting too much out of my A/C

What's up MATTY, expansion valve can b a possibility however those things are pretty good unless you allow contaminants in the system which plugs it up. One question, did they charge ur system by weight and pull a vaccum? charging by weight is very important to get ur A/C to run at the temps you got when the car was new-oil charge is important too. Sound like you have replaced all neccesary components to have a prefectly running unit, so when they're charging ur car make sure u see them pulling out a digital scale and place the tank of refrigerant on it. I would also spray a whole can of lysol into ur evaporator to make sure that when the system wasn't running no fungi started to grow thus restricting ur evap coil.

BTW Sterlingmaxima--> "Freon" is a name brand of DuPont, DuPont make many diff types of refrigerants under the "Freon" brand- r134a being one of them....the technical name is Refrigerant....many companies make refrigerant.

He pulled vaccum and said there are definetly no leaks in the system.

Take a look at the expansion valve. There should be no frost on the valve and the tubing. Is the thermal probe for the valve attached to the evaporator exit tubing by a clip properly? The thermal probe tubing should not touch any other tubing or the evaporator or the fan amplifier.

Is the low pressure tubing on the right side of the engine bay cold? frosted? The tubing on the dryer warm?

What is the low side and high side pressure. If the expansion valve is stuck open, the low side pressure will be slightly high.

Under hot sun, my car would not get very cold in a mile. Nevertheless it had been working fine for the past two months after installing the new compressor including a trip to L.A. and the car is now in San Diego.

Matty, SVI30 has great input I would look into that-also make sure that your belt is properly adjusted.

Your system can also be over charged. Easy to do if they did not use a scale as maxpeed96plat mentioned.

Update.

Went up to the shop thats been working on the car. Hooked up the Low pressure side and its fluctuating from about 40 to 30. He said thats not normal to fluctuate and most likely the expansion valve is not working properly. After the car was sitting there for about 15 min the parking lot, the air was really cold coming out. I went to the bank, and shut the car off for like 5 min, came out, and the car was back to blowing cool air, but not COLD !! Its mind boggleing.

Change the Expansion Valve is not that tough. They can store the freon in a tank without having to dump it again. The valve itself is pretty cheap, around $30 at many places.

By the way, did you change over to PAG46 from the PAG100 oil?

Matt,

There are many, many references on the web calling PAG 46 for the CWV618 compressor.

Expansion valve was 1 of my problems. Changed that first, wouldn't get cold. Then changed compressor and all is gravy. No, my car doesnt get ice cold after 1mile... Trying to keep rpms low for the mpg, so I don't even get the rpms high enuf.
