Do I just disconnect the negative battery terminal?
Will do the On board code check. If then a reset is necessary how do you do that?
Thanks!

when u take off the TB there is a paper gasket between it and the intake manifold
here is a shot of my dirty TB with the paper gasket stuck to it
here is the paper gasket on the top and the metal gasket for the IACV on the bottom
dont cheap out, its only a few dollars for the piece of mind
hey BTW r u on TMEC?

Sometimes lights come on when you clean stuff. It happened to an Altima that I drove at a car dealership. I almost bought it, but then they cleaned the engine(including the TB) and it ran like crud afterwards and the light came on. It drove really nice up until then too. Try disconnecting your battery and reconnect it and see if the light comes back on. Is your car still running normal?

Perhaps when running OBD is cleared the code, but "Service engine soon" is gone. I didn't unscrew the TB, just reached in and sprayed Canadian Tire's "Throttle Body cleaner" and then wiped.
Haines manual strongly urges not to clean at TB at least with chemicals.
Interesting.
Wow, Andrei, that was some grungy looking TB. Sure it runs smoother now.

I've had the CEL illuminated after TB service before. Never a code either. I think the O2 sensor gets crudded up until you can burn it off. My CEL would go off after a couple of days normal driving. Good god man that is one nasty **** TB.

I did the TB removal thing on my I30 (156K miles) it looked that bad. I didn't do the IAC though & probably should have.
I got the CEL on now though. It indicates 0100 (MAF) is at fault. Still runs fine. I'll let it go for awhile & maybe clean the IAC, then I guess I did screw up the MAF when I accidentally dropped it in the process.

Most likely if you dropped the MAF sensor you broke the small hot wire sensing filament that measures the air flow by changes in voltages as the air cools the filament. This wire gets hot and over the years I am sure that it will crystalize. It's like dropping a flashlight...the wire in the bulb crystalizes from the heat and will break easily. I am sure you will have to place it sooner or later. By the way, I think the CEL or (MIL) as it is also known, is different then the SES light. To me the SES light lets you know when your engine is due for a service and the MIL is when a code has been set in the computer. To clear that code you will need an OBD11 scanner. Auto zone and advanced Auto Parts will most likely reset it for you. At least that is how my wife's Toyota is set up. At every 5000 miles the SES light comes on and then we know it is time for service.

That's close to ONE of the dirtiest that I've ever seen! But I think the one of the 94 Honda Passport that I bought had the worst! That had crud built up on it and believe it or not I had to get a ball pein (i think thats how u spell it) and a small chissel to get it all off and then scrape the rest of it off with a puddy knife! lol needless to say; that's why I sold it!
