Can it be buffered off?

The stupid shop put the "Nissan" emblem on my trunk off centered!!! The "Maxima" is tilted. Darn idiots!!

So I tried to debadge it. First, I fished the "Nissan" off with a fish line. Then spread some of this "glue gone" or something like that, just like the sticky said.

Well, most of the double-side tape came off quite easily. Then it left a mark of the paint. This time, I was stupid. I tried to use some cloth to get that off. Instead of getting that off, I kind of "polished" the surface. Now I can see a white spot when I look at the trunk from the side ...... I guess I won't be able to sleep well tonight. I don't even wanna try anything on the "Maxima". Guess I will just let it be.

Can that be buffered off? I really need to get that done as soon as I can. It's really really annoying.....

Thanks....

I've heard that when you debadge your Max it will leave a little discoloration that will go away after a while..

Can anyone confirm?

Mine just got put on about two months ago when the previous owner had a accident at the back. The thing that's left is not discoloration, it's more like a thin layer of tape but not sticky. I can feel the thickness by touch.

If the badge has been on the paint for a while, it does leave a little discoloration when you remove it....

If there is no damage to the paint, then no worries, the remaining residue will buff and the discoloration on the paint will fade in time (mine did) Pics would be great to get a better idea of what you've going on, but I wouldn't sweat it. Sleep well.

Aye. You have no discoloration. Check. I'm still a little confused though. There is a thin layer of tape, but it's not sticky. Is the underbelly of the tape sticky? What I did with mine, I heated up the the remaining residue with a hair dryer and used a credit card (or the like) to scrape it off. I then buffed it up with some compound, followed by some finishing polish, layed some wax on it, and it came out looking quite cherry. I can't even tell where it was now..

and you tried using "goo-gone". You followed the instructions to let is sit for a few before wiping it off? That must be some super adhesive. I have no other suggestions.

Wouldn't a little polishing compound remove that? Tryig taking it to a body shop for a consult. Those guys have seen everything there is to see on body work.

I had mine painted recently at a local MAACO and they put the maxima logo on off center.. I took it back and just had the guy take it off.. He used something called reducer.. clean as a whistle. He said paint thinner would be too strong.

"The enblem was put on when the paint was still wet", said another body shop.

I put "goo-gone" on it and let it sit for a bit, probably not long enough.
I buffered it, and now it's better looking but again, the paint is still messed up since the enblem was put on when paint's wet. Not that noticeable....
That blueish ring was caused by me keeping wiping it. Kind of like polishing it. The paint faded. Stupid me!!!
Now I think I might repaint the whole trunk when I have some free money in hand. I still got "MAXIMA" and "GLE" to go later.
Thanks for all suggestions you guys gave. I really appreciate it.

how much did they charge you to paint your ride? did they do the inside of your doors?

you need a cleaner wax, not a compound. the compund will take a little color off of the trunk, were as the cleaner wax is alot softer than that and will leave wax behind when your done. lightly, and i mean lightly buff it out. and don't be shy about how much you use cause you want the surface good and wet, you can do it 2 times if yiou have to, just buff it off and do it again. maguires cleaner wax works best.

No one suggested a clay bar? Hmm...try that. Unless its something different from what I am thinking, itll take it right off.

I use 3m Rubbing compound and it took super glue off my bumper. Be extremley careful with it, if you use not enough of it or rub in one spot for to long it will go through the clear coat and that spot will look blotchy.

I know the back doors don't look like they were done.. but I can't remember the front. I had some major body damage (rear ended) and minor damage in the front. They fixed and painted entire car for 3500. I Think I got the Supreme paint job for the presidential price $350 or $400??

CLAY BAR THAT BAD BOY.

Sorry to yell but I'm surprised that hardly anyone recommended that you do this. That will definitely take that extra residue off. Just keep the spot well lubricated with water or "clay lube" and go back and forth for about a minute, that should completely take everything off. If there's some slight scratching, use some of that Scratch-x stuff or whatever. Or a light polish...

take a blow dryer and heat it up a little. then you can use any of the following and it will come off: clay bar, bug and tar remover, goo gone, alcohol pads. good luck man

I've taken off the residue w/ clay bar, but no matter what, the discoloration shows. Also, there's some paint chip regardless =|

Oh well. I'm still glad with it. I might get some touch up paint but oh well.
