Weird Knocking while Rolling

Started last night. I got onto the highway and I heard it kinda faint while traveling at high speeds. After I got off the highway to a local road, its kind of a knocking thats very intermidant. Sometimes its there and sometimes not. Kinda as the car rolls but its really not at every revolution of the wheel. The only real way to describe it, is like a knocking. Knock knock knock. The car shifts fine, and no fluid leaking either. NO motor noises at idle or high speeds. Im kinda wondering if its possibly my new intercooler pipeing hitting against something on the frame or possible an axle or a wheel bearing is going.

Let me know what you guys think.

I'm not sure if this is the only symptom or not but you will definitely be hearing a resounding deep noise especially when going over 35mph. it would be extremely annoying and unless you have ur radio up reaaaalll loud, you'd hear that trust me!

Wheel bearings will should either stop or at least change pitch when you turn.

If you hear it and then turn right, if the right wheel bearing is bad, it should stop because there is less pressure on it.
Vice versa for left.

Mine on my BMW was a constant rotation whenever i was above 25 mph, but it didnt rotate at the same speed as the tires.
It gets louder and louder and louder...

I always thought that a bad wheel bearing would only make when your going straight. If your turning and it makes noise then its your CV Joints.

I dont think so...

Isnt it the opposite?

I know CV means constant velocity, but i dont know all that much about suspension.

Well, I think the CV boots would make noise/knocking when turning OR going straight, especially if you hit a bump or something. As for the wheel bearings, it would make sense if they didnt make noise while turning but definitely while going forward.

but don't quote me on that!

Actually, I think it could be either. The wheel bearing is fully encased. Replacement requires a press to get it in and out. What this means is that you may experience grinding noise when its rolling beacause some of the rollers in the bearing are damaged and/or you may experience scraping noise when turning in either direction because now their is some play between the inner and outer casing of the bearing and the part of your spindle that rotates closest to the bearing casing is now able to move enough to rub up against it, causing a scraping noise. The latter will also cause some play in the wheel if you lift it off the ground and try to shake it. (If you do this there should be no movement.)

How do I know????? Happened to me. Both sides. I had the scraping noise when turning in one direction. Thought the brakes were going so I got a brake job. They replaced brakes and rotors on both sides AND caliper on one side. Noise still there. (brakes were bad so no money wasted.) Lisfted the car off the ground and noticed there was movement. Thought "hmmm.... could be tie rod." Bot no. Tie rod was tight. Then their front end expert says only the bearing would explain movement in all directions. Replaced bearing and noise went away.

So, to make long story short. If it's knocking? Probably I would lean toward the CV joint. Bearings usually don't knock, they usually grind.

Yeah, that's whats going on with mine, but I had the CV boot changed. that was over a year ago. has not stopped yet. So now I'm gonna have the tie rod ends checked out. Just take it to someone you trust and have them tell you what it is.

Its on the drivers side front wheel area and it's a "thump thump thump" while I drive straight. If I turn the wheel, lets say at 30mph, either way, it stops.

Its a very weird noise that like a knock knock knock almost like hitting on the floorboards.

its probably the cv axle.. my gf has the same kinda problem.. it feels like knocking in the floor board... just raise the car and and see if its all torn up or if its even tightened down correctly....

if the boot isn't replaced immediately, the axle will require replacement. The only way a boot change will be beneficial is if you do it prior to hearing the thumping/clicking sound of the dry axle joint.
