Hood Vents Installed **lots of pics**

I installed these two fake hood vents (supposed to be for the side but looked decent on top) on my hood. Why...you may ask? Well the knucklehead who owned the car before me successfully shut the hood on some tool he had and created two nice raises in the hood as you can see below. The paint was chipped so you could see the bare metal and it was an eye sore...

Instead of getting the dent repair and the whole hood repainted, I decided to get these off ebay for 15 bucks. I wanted to avoid the co$tly repairs and wanted to take a chance. I figured if i messed this up i'd go with the cf hood. As you can see from the pictures below, I believe i creatively covered the imperfection up, and i do believe it will flow 100% better when I put mesh behind the front bumper cover openings and also make my all mesh grill. Let me know what you think...(i know there will be bashing--hood vents on a family sedan??)

Whose i30 in the background?

It's not so much of them being on a family sedan, it's...them being there. It's one thing if they look like they could be functional (or god forbid actually were), but these seriously look like they were randomly krazy glued on to the hood. They're in about the right location to vent heat away from...the strut towers.

Not my thing, but as they say, to each their own. I still think you should go with the 'messed up hood' excuse to go CF...I know I would.

That is also my i30...
sure they could look crazy glued to the hood, but it's all in perspective. Also, i would have made them functional, but the hood beam underneath was in the way and I didn't feel like cutting through it. To challenge the 'venting' of the strut towers, i slightly disagree with your statement. If i'm logically thinking correctly, I would say that any vent in the hood would vent the engine sufficiently. According to modern science, hot air rises as far as temperature facts go. Therefore, the heat will not go up through the metal hood logically, and therefore will dissipate up through the closest vent...being my 'strut vents'......(did you ever see heat coming off a surface such as asphalt or your hood, last time i saw it it was going vertical)

Now Make them real.

Not bad, but fake. Thats the only issue. Ive thought about flipping the stock airbox, and cutting a nice vent above it. But when it rains...your're SOL.

Edit: wow...two posts from when I start typing to when I submit...nvm the first comment.

.. poor guy. its hard when you have damage on your hood. i mean it sticks out like a soar thumb.. but Personally this is not the way to go.. those schoop things look soo doofy... i rather the dent on the hood..
use carparts.com try to find a hood around.. you might even find in your color.. that way you dont even hav to paint. otherwise carbon fiber hood.
save 10$ each week and you should be able to afford a hood in a few months.

good luck...

Also, check the detailing forums. I just posted on dent removal. It might take em out, but the paint cracks will still be kinda noticeable...if you wanted to go that way.

I would rather have those two dents in my hood than those eye popping pieces of rice plastic on my hood....that serve no purpose at all.....and attract worthless attention. Please take them off and save up for a new hood if you don't want to remove the dents.

Did you cut holes into your hood to mount that?

Because the instructions that came with mine told me I didn't have to if I didn't want to0...So I didn't

Man, they tore you apart...

What would you people have done? Go get a new hood and get it repainted? If he likes it, and it makes him happy instead of the dents, why beat the crap out of him for it? Its like bludgeoning someone after they ask you if you like their shirt...

I would assume he posted with pics because he wanted our opinion....he got it. But, it's only an opinion.

i believe the moderator can explain that, not you. also, those amazing jokes do not belong on this website. I am throughly amazed by how i'm thinking that half of the people joking throughout my thread are over the age of 25 and spend their time cracking jokes over something I tried to fix. It's either you guys have no life or you're all extremely rich and have nothing better to do than to slander a 17 year old trying to make due without spending a great deal of money.

Shissgbob not to make you feel bad or anything but those things have to go. Please dont do that to a maxima. Thats like putting 22's on a max you just dont do it. If you would have make them fully functional to maybe let out some heat out from the motor or to go more air into the intake if you had a short ram that would have been better. But to hide so dents ? Not really a smart choose on your part. Sorry man!

yes, i can see that from the majority of the people expressing their opinions. the problem with making them fully funtional is that if i ever need to take them off, god knows how i'd go about patching those holes up. I also didn't want to deal with the rain, but i appreciate you telling me how you feel about them in a decent way.

yes, but when i would decide to f that, what happens when it rains, i can't just f it then??? you'd need some sort of gutter system that would still allow air in. i can't see it working..
