Have to tickle my Maxima to get out of Park.

I have to play with the brakes Pedal and play with the gear shift button with my thumb to move out of park??? Its funny, because I find my self listening for a click sound. Then I can come out of park. After I do that I can change all gears no problem. What do I need to fix??? How much??? Thx Guys. Your a real help.

try to disconect your shift solinoid. if that works then you need a new solinoid or to clean that on out.

Take off the shifter trim and you'll see where the problem is. Like the others this happened to me too, clean and lube and you should be good to go.

sounds like youve already been helped but ill tell you i had a similar problem in my 93 SE. i had to pump the brakes twice, quickly and hard, and hold the second time to get the shifter to move out of park. i know the click you are listening for very well.

Question is where exactly should I be putting the high Temp grease. Should I be stuffing it where the brake solenoid ROD is protruding from? Is that it? I think I cleaned it real good, including spraying some brake cleaner on to get the little gunk off. Its definetely workin great after the cleaning

Alright no repsonse. Ill just smear it all over the rod and stick some in the hole where it comes out.

I have a 1996 max witht he same problem..Thought it was a switch on the brake. Then the solenoid, but it was neather of them. Pushed the button on top of the shift and followed the noise, it came out of the side of the floor heater and led to a small black cable that led up to the place where you put the key. I pulled and wiggled it a little and its been fine sents. But if it does it again I'm just going to play with that black cable again.
