Hey I replaced my clear tails a few days ago. When I removed the stock tails, there was a black, thick compound (some kind of sealant i think) around a portion of the tail.

Do I need to reapply this to the new tails?

When I washed my car, i sprayed a lot of water around the tail area to check for leaks and a lil water seeped into the trunk. Has anyone had this problem? Suggestion on where to get this adhesive/sealant??

Did you push the tails in all the way and screw them in really good? It should be very difficult to get water past them. Just got to your local auto parts store and get some silicone sealant. That should work.

Yeah, screwed them in tight. I didn't find any water on the right side, just a little bit on the left. I'll get the silicon. Thanks.

Did that silicone sealant work for you or did it get even more screwed up?

That black stuff is called butol-rubber. You can buy more if necessary at any local shop that installs car windshield/glass.
shouldnt be more than $5 a roll.

You definitly should re-apply the butol rubber, thats what pretty much keeps water out of your trunk!

I got butol stuff all over my hands...

I tried to do the mod tonight. I screwed up!! I did everything right up to using the heat gun and removing the lens. I cracked the lens. To make things worse, I must've pulled really hard on the bulb wires and my side marker bulb is dead. The bulb itself looks okay, it looks like the wiring got pulled too hard. The sure way to find out will be to use a Voltmeter...

OUCH!!

Now I am thinking, should I spend $200 and get the clears from CustomMaxima.com or should I buy the Stillen front lip for $175 and get it installed totalling around $250... I dunno...

Does anyone know how much to paint & install the front lip on 99 Max?

Actually the rubber molding is what keeps water out of your trunk.

njmaxseltd: your car looks sweet with the flaps painted to match, all you need now is the Stillen front lip and your set.
