5 speed swap questions

Have found a wreck with a 5 speed in it. I was looking at hlh's writeup on the 5 speed conversion process and saw under parts needed "Both Manual drive shafts" and he quoted "if you have ABS you need specific ones, if you don't have ABS you can use ABS ones".

I'm not exactly sure whether the wreck has ABS or not, but generally the Manual 5 speeds in Australia only came in the bottom of the line Maxima models - and they didnt usually have ABS - So i'll assume it wont have ABS specific drive shafts. My car does have ABS unfortunately - so whats the go there?

Since Manuals are so rare here, and since it'd be unlikely i'll EVER see a manual 5 speed again - Where can I source ABS specific manual drive shafts??

Cheers guys..

Simple way to find out, look next to the right shock tower just below the master cylinder (assuming yours is RHD), a large distribution block there will be ABS.

Get ABS axles through an auto parts store, or online if you can't get them locally.

Axles should be the least of your worries on the 5speed swap haha. You can use your auto pass side axle, make sure you swap the axle bracket off the manual engine tho.

Thanks guys

Ok, so I added axle bracket to the list.. is there anything else that needs to come off the manual car?

5 Speed Transmission
Both Manual drive shafts (I need ABS Specific Ones)
1 clutch kit (clutch disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing)
2 shifting rods (support rod + control rod) (acquire used w/ all the hardware)
Return spring (connect to the 2 shifting rods)
1 shifter
1 shifter console piece (interior)
1 shift consul bracket (Replaces the auto one) (interior) (dealer name plate bolt and transaxle hole cover)
1 brake pedal
1 clutch pedal
1 master cylinder
Hydraulic lines for clutch
1 slave cylinder for clutch
1 extra set of transmission harnesses
1 Manual Fly wheel
1 Manual motor mount
Locking pin and clip for the clutch pedal to the master cylinder
2 nuts that fit the threads on the clutch pedal.
1 bolt that bolts in the top of the clutch pedal
1 bolt that connects the control rod to the transmission
Axle Brackets
I'm not doing the swap - my mechanic is.. i took one look at the process and decided it'd be best done by someone other than a mechanical retard..

Remember that the pass side axle are the same for auto and manual.

Grab the spacer on the clutch pedal when you remove it. It is about 3/4in thick on the inside of the car.

I have random pics in there that might help with the pedal install.

Thanks Kevlo. Over here we drive on the left hand side of the road - hence the RHD car. I assume by pass side, you mean right side? Or were you referring to my pass side - the left?? Sorry, just a little confused. Heh.. this is where it gets a bit mental

does anyone know what kind of 5-speed tranny is best to install w/ a 3.5 engine swap or can a auto tranny hold up with that kind of power the 3.5 puts out?

What do you mean what kind of 5 speed? There's only one made for our cars, the RS5F05x. Depends if you want VLSD or not. Yes, the auto will hold up.

Search, all of this has been answered before.

Ok I'm trying to school myself with all the info in these fourms...but what I mean is ...I see people say "I got this tranny from that company, with this flywheel, and that clutch" so what I'm saying is can I just get a stock flywheel, 5-speed tranny, and clutch and call it a day or is there more to it?...personally I wanna keep it auto... but I dunno?

Another thing...VLSD?? what is that? and if the Auto tranny will hold up why do people diss it so much?? it makes people like myself think switching the tranny is a must! u feel me?
