99 KEY question

When i bought my car they gave me one key, so if i lose it im screwed, the dealership wants to charge me $200 for the labor, the key, and to get it made....

Any other solutions??

The ones u can make at home depot or where ever can unlock doors but dont work to run the car like they did in my 95..

So does anyone else know any other way thats cheaper before i spend 200 bucks for a key?? theres gotta be somethin out there

Heck yes there's another way, check eBay brother. Really cheap prices.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but does anyone know if a non keyless entry equipped 4th gen can get the factory keyless entry system put in? My 97 SE I bought didn't come with the S&C package unfortunately, so I'm hoping someone has done this before!

I started that project and kinda gave up. From what I understand you need the control unit in the trunk (specific to 95-96 and 97-99), the relay from the trunk, the antenna wire, and the remote. You MAY need the BCM (or is it ECM?), and that's why I decided to put it on hold since I have a '99.

The good news though is that the car is prewired for it, so if you get all of the appropriate pieces, it should be a matter of plug and play.

As for the OP, you can get the transponder keys on eBay pretty cheap and then have a local locksmith program them. I think that generally runs $60-70. I'm still chancing my single key.

Yeah you can get the key off ebay, and have it cut at a local lock smith. However you must have the two keys and immobilizer programed at a Nissan dealership, which shouldn't be anymore than 100 dollars.

Reading over the FSM mostly, with some Google action thrown in for good measure. Another .org-er helped me out big time and snapped a pic of his '95 Keyless system - it's how I learned that the 95-96 system has one additional wire on the plug that goes into the keyless module than 97-99 do. The part number is slightly different between the two modules as well.
